Straw cup

I'm just wondering what your favorite straw cups for toddlers/kids are. We have a few but I've noticed black spots on a couple of straws. I am assuming it is mold. Clearly, I need to replace DD's cups!

depending what they are you should be able to get replacement straws....instead of whole new cups

We use the take-and-toss straw cups alot around here, they are *almost* no spill. (the straw fits tightly into the lid so if he tips it up drinking it doesn't spill. Will spill out of the straw obviously if the whole thing tips over). They're cheap (we reuse them of course), and they make good kids cups too w/out the lid, good size for little hands.

We always gave DD a real cup (usually a mug) and a stainless steel straw. If you're interested I can find a link to buy the straws.

We originally fed her from plastic "baby-ware" but when we decided we didn't want to do plastic anymore, we switched. I'd read here on MDC that toddlers tend to handle real plateware differently (more carefully) than the plastic that they instinctively know won't break. Of course sometimes something will get broken but it wouldn't have been a big deal for us - and in our case, DD is the ONLY member of the family who doesn't break dishes! (DH and I probably break a dish a month...).

We use the plastic cups and lids you get at sit-down restaurants when you order a kids' drink. I bought a package of re-usable plastic straws to use with them. These straws are wider than disposable straws, so they are easier to clean. If they start to get a little black in the inside, I soak them in a bleach and water mixture over night and then wash them thoroughly.

We use the Take and Toss kind. I like those the best.

We use these straw cups by Playtex. The bottom part of the straw separates and we just run the straw, lid, and cup all separated through the dishwasher and they get really clean. I like the closing mechanism on these cups that seals them and keeps the straw clean and lets you just toss the cup in the back of the car or on the bed or whatever. You can see what the lid looks like with the straw up here.

We use Foogo straw cups, but I wish they had a handle. For smoothies, we use Take N Toss, since the straws get gross quickly.

This is exactly what we do. We only use Foogo cups for water -- no juice, smoothies, or anything else.

We do the same thing, although we're starting to transition to real cups for everything unless we're on the go. On the go, water in a Foogo for the bag will do us.

We have a Foogo for water, but it's a little heavy and DD can't figure out the lid, which drives her nuts.

We mostly use these from Playtex. Like the insulator, but not insulated. She loves them!

I like the take and toss straw cups as well, but I haven't been able to find a place to buy replacement straws. Have you seen any?

We try to use 'real' cups as much as possible, but when we're out and about we use the Playtex ones as well.

I don't remember what I used with my son. With my DD we went straight to regular cups (no sippys of any kind). She started using those around 15 months. But she was attached to the baba (she started getting a baba at 10 months even though she was still BF at that time)... and she was really attached. Around the age of 2 she switched to using open cups exclusively. But straw cups are supposed to be better then spout ones... I can't remember which e used though I think we just had a bunch of random ones... oh then we used the coolster tumblers...

We have a couple of Playskool cups that are available only at CVS. They are pretty easy to clean but we also only use water in them. The straw folds under the lid so it stays clean and it doesn't leak when shaken or thrown. It's most like the one pictured in the link below but the cup is a little more squat than that one. The top looks the same.

We also use the Take and Toss straw cups. I agree that the spilling is not bad at all!

Another option is to buy some disposable straws and use those in place of the straws that have molded. That way you don't have to buy all new cups. The disposable straws fit on a lot of different cups....
