Seeking Advice About Working From Home

Hello,

I have been teaching for just about fifteen years and am now looking to work from home. There are so many scams out there, however, and recruitment agencies do not seem to hire for work at home positions, so I am desperately seeking trustworthy advice about where to get started.

There are obviously so many women who work from home, but I do not have any friends who do this type of work. If anyone has any information or advice as to where I should start and what type of jobs are out there, I would greatly appreciate it!

: )

What sort of work are you looking for? I work from home but only put in about 10 hrs/wk (I could put in more hours if I wanted to.)

If you want to work full time from home and make lots of money, then I'd be interested in the suggestions you get.

I haven't looked into this either for about a year or so. But my experience is that a lot of the companies who hire (Aspen I think is the name of one, like I said it's been a while since I did research on it) for those positions weren't hiring in MA.
I'm interested in replies too. Since with 2 little ones and another on the way I'd prefer to work from home.

Type of work...

I am pretty flexible about this, really. My experience is as a writer/editor/teacher, so these areas would make most sense. What type of work do you do? Thanks!

Hi, I work from home for American Power Conversion. I do email technical support for our products. If you are not familiar with us, our website is www.apc.com.

For my job in particular, people need to first work on site before they can work at home. However, I am guessing that there are other technological companies that hire work at home people for my kind of work. APC gave me all my training, I knew nothing before I started. So, maybe the other companies do that too? If you are interested, I would check with reputable ones like Dell, Gateway, Apple...etc...You just need to find one that doesn't outsource to India which can be tough.

If you speak another language, you can also interpret over the phone from home. My Mother does that as a job and I can get you the information for the company she works for if you want it.

I know someone else that worked for an insurance company doing recruiting. She worked from home. I think it was Hartford Life or something like that?

Those are all the work at home jobs I can think of other than those lucky creative women that can make and sell their wares

Good luck!!!!

In the interest of full disclosure, I do want to say that it is very difficult to work and take care of a child at the same time. There have been many days with tears. I would not change the situation for anything though - daycare is not an option for me - but I did just want to make sure you had "all" the info I'm hoping that when child number 2 is a little older, they can play together and things will be a little easier. My boss has 2 kids and it seems to work well for her. She works at home too.

Just taking notes! I would love to be able to work, but cannot do the daycare option.
Just talked to dh about his work schedule, which is all over the place, split days off, different days off each week etc, etc and he said that he cannot get a "set schedule " at this time.
I could look after other children also, but we are hoping to move soon, so that would be unfair to the children involved.

Thank You

Thanks so much, I really appreciate the information, and it helps just to talk about it. I have been getting the sense that you must work at a company before being able to work from home. There are so many scams out there, it is hard to know what is reliable.

I will continue to look, and who knows! Funny you mention the creative work--I do a lot of this, but cannot fathom being able to make enough money selling my work!

Day care is very tough--I have had to do this with my children while teaching, and it is so, so hard. I was able to have someone take care of them in our home when they were very young, but days care was inevitable after that given my job. This is the main reason I am seeking some balance!

Thanks so much for taking the time to chat!

I work at home ghost-writing articles. PM me or email me (beanandpumpkin2 (at) aol (dot) com) for the name and web address of the company... I don't know if I'm allowed to post it on a public board. She's really nice, I always get paid on time, easy to work for. You choose articles based on what she has available, and you can work as much as you want (as long as she has it available)... some weeks I only do two or three articles, and other times I write 10 or more, depending on what I have time for.
