inauguration

Anyone planning to bring their children to DC for the inauguration?
Am I crazy for thinking about it?

My DSs are 2 and 1, and while the 2 yo will enjoy the spectacle, the baby won't notice. But my office overlooks PA Ave, so I have a warm semi-private (they're expecting c. 50-80 people, but nothing like the crowds outside) place to watch from. And one of my best friends really, really wants to bring her 5 and 3 yos, and she can't get into my office unless I'm there too.

if you've got a warm place away from the masses that is awesome. But how are you planning to get there? the metro will likely be packed too, and my dh heard on the radio that metro is advising people to show up when the parking opens at 3:30 am if they need parking....

I wouldn't go if I had to be outside, but I would consider it in your situation.

I'm going to be at home.

I don't think I would, only because of the craziness getting in and out. At least you'll have a warm place with bathrooms and running water though. I heard there is something like 1 portopotty for every 3,000 people. Yuk!

Go to the whistle stop train stop in Edgewater, but don't tell too many folks about it. Train station opening gates at 12, train to come around 2:30. Shuttle from Edgewater Hight school parking lot.

no. way.

what if a riot breaks out and you're stuck there for who knows how long?

besides, the city is telling people to treat this event as if a hurricane is coming. you and your friend should spend the day together safe at home and enjoy and share the special event w/ your LOs together.

if you go - not only will you be trying to work with and through the madness- you'll be adding to it.

I would DEFINITELY do that! What a remarkable experience for all of you. They may not understand or care now, but how cool will it be when they can grow up and say that they were there for history in the making. No doubt, I don't think you're crazy, I think you'd be crazy NOT to go!

I'm pretty excited for you. Can I come too?

If I were you I would go. That's an opportunity I wouldn't want to miss. In fact I'm jealous, lol!! Take others advise and get there EARLY though and be careful. Good Luck mama!
