Lesson I've learned from my cat - Page 2

I've been curious about pet vaccines in the past too:

Very interesting to read in the WP an article that admits vaccine issues when the same paper shrugs off vaccine concerns for babies...

Wow! This is even more enlightening!

We had to have said cat vaccinated for a health certificate necessary to travel with her across state. Interesting enough, no one at the airport at either end asked to see the certificate...

I think what really shocked me about the visit, more than anything, was how matter-of-fact the vet was on the vac issue. In a clear, unbiased manner, he presented the options, much like he was walking me through a decision about various treatment options for surgery. It was not combative. I did not have my back up and ready for an arguement. And I didn't feel pressured or, worse, judged. Neither one of us were on the offensive. It was really nice to have a meaningful conversation with this medical professional.

It really made me realize how much I am missing that with my ped. We see a naturopathic doc reguarly to stay healthy or if the kids are sick and we do have a similar relationship with him. But, wow, I didn't realize how stressed I get when I have to take the kids to the vet. That's for the feedback!

Wow that is unbelievable Red Lil Mamma. I'm so glad your vet thought of a CO leak. I hope you baked him some cookies or something!

I had a very 'enlightening' moment from my cat's vet appt 2 weeks ago.

He HAS Post Vaccinal Sarcoma, or ISS (Injection Site Sarcoma).
I know he doesn't have very long now from what I have read, but my bigger shock
was this:

I brought him in for his yearly check up & to check out this huge mass between his shoulder blades. I figured it was some form of cancer. Anyway, she pulled some fluid, went to look at under the slide, came back & said it was cancerous.
I nodded my head & she IMMEDIATELY went into talking about vaccinal sarcoma. She knows my thoughts on vaccines. I have been seeing her for almost 4 years & he has never been vaccinated there. (but had been for the previous 16 years).

I stopped vaccinating him shortly after I stopped with my first kids. I never really read anything about animal vax.
My puppy almost died from getting parvovirus right after recieving his 3rd dose of the vax.

I was shocked when I went online & found so much info on what my cat has as it relates to vaccines (rabies & feline leukemia vax)
All I could think of was, how crazy that its ok to say there is a definite link in animals, but never any causal effects in our children
Just makes me furious.

That is crazy, but I guess it makes sense. If an animal dies from a vaccine injury, it is not seen as a big deal (to most anyway) and the manufacterers or vets can sigh and say that it is a risk and it happens...nobody runs out and sues. But with children the stakes are so much higher

WOW.

This thread is amazing. Anyone know about similarities/differences between human vaccines and animal vaccines?
