I'm in such pain. I go tomorrow to have it set. What am I going to do? My son is almost two. He nurses a lot, nurses a whole lot at night. Please tell me it's not going to hurt like this for long, that I'll be functional soon.

I don't have experience with broken wrists but that sounds horrible. I hope you feel better soon.

I have broken my wrist. It sucks.

It won't hurt as much after it has been set. Well, it might hurt when they are actually setting it and for a little while after, but it will feel much better after that. The stability of the cast really helps. Your doctor will probably prescribe something for the pain too, at least initially. Make sure the pain meds are safe for nursing though!

The cast will manage a lot of the pain. It does take a little while for the pain to go away, but you will be amazed how you find ways to work around that wrist.

If the cast is too scratchy, you can get a package of those little colored fuzzy sock/booties at Walgreens for .99 And cut the toe part open. Then slide the sock over the cast so you aren't scraping it against your son when you hold him.

I've broken my wrist twice.

The 2nd time was in the middle of a blizzard in the mountains. That night I wrapped it in an ace bandage and drank a nice big glass of scotch. The next morning I thought about going to the local hospital, but one of the people in our car was flying out that day so we decided to go ahead and drive home so he could make his flight. H dropped me off at the hospital on the way to taking friend to the airport. That 5 hour drive was just awful. Every little bump hurt like crazy.

As soon as I got a cast, the pain went away. It makes all the difference.

i'm so sorry. i can't imagine trying to nurse with a cast. but the baby will adjust, don't worry about that part. i hope that pain gets better soon.

Don't be afraid to get and take the pain meds. There are PLENTY of safe meds you can use during nursing. Vicodin, Oxycontin, Percoset, Darvocet, TylenolCodene3 & 4 are a few right off the top of my head. Also Nubain (shot in the rear) works well with nursing, but it's only administered via the hospital.

HUGS! I hope you feel better soon. Do you have a metal coat hanger? Try to get one...you will need it for the itching.

Mama, take some arnica as soon as you can get to it. It'll help with a lot of the swelling and the bruising and will, in the long run, help with the pain. Alongside the hard drugs, not instead of.
And yes, you're probably going to have a bad few days, a good few weeks and then a bad week or two once the cast is off.
