Vaccinations & analgesia

Soooo, I could have put this in Selective & Delayed, but wanted a bigger audience.

We selectively and realllllly delay vaxes. However, both dds get some.

What is the current stance on giving acetaminophen or ibuprofen before and/or after the injection?

I was always told to give something before and after. Part of me thinks though that it may inhibit the immune respone. And if (god forbid) there was a reaction, I'd like to be able to monitor temp., etc.

So what do you think? Even if you don't vax (which I know many/most don't) I'm still curious!

I don't vax, but I have read in numerous places in my research that giving tylenol before the vax does suppress the immune system. Let me see if I can find a source or two...

They can also mask reactions...

I wouldn't give tylenol (acetaminophen), it really reduces your glutathione levels, an important part of the detoxification process. I think I've read it also reduces the immune response to vaccines--IIRC that was a published study, so that may be google-able.

I agree with all PP's ...I would not give it!

We don't do anything at all before, at the advice of our dr. She wants to be able to tell if DD has a temp, so we can postpone vaccinating if need be. I've also read the research on tylenol, and it seems fairly convincing. I would not give DD tylenol now, for anything. We do give ibuprofen if she is fussy afterwards, but I wait for a little while to make sure there is no immediate reaction. I don't do it automatically.
