I had my daughter on wednesday, at home, in the water, with no tearing. I have awful hemorroids and my dh bruised my back rubbing so hard during contractions, felt good at the time though. All i really want right now is a hot bath right now! Do you think its safe since i didnt have any tears?

Yes, I don't see why not. I took a lot of baths in the first days following most of my births--helped so much with afterpains and achiness.

By the way, congrats! I guess you got through the worries over pre-e and whatnot. Great!

Oh yeah, I took a ton of hot baths right after I had DS. Helped ease that hit by a truck feeling.

I had terrible hemmorhoids and all I could do was sit in a hot bath for a week after giving birth!

I took an herbal bath twice a day for 10 days - Take a bath!

I thought the issue was not whether or not you have a tear/stitches, but the fact that the cervix isn't closed yet. I personally wouldn't take a bath until I thought my cervix was closed. Although they had me doing sitz baths three times a day, so I'm not real clear on why that's different.

That sort of reasoning would also mean no baths during labor/birth or menstruation.... It's unlikely for anything to travel up and in. So long as your tub is clean, I don't see the problem. I took hot baths after giving birth.

My midwife was fine with me taking baths after the birth-- I took a nice bath an hour or two after the birth, actually, but DH scrubbed the tub down for me and rinsed well before I got in. Until my bleeding stopped, I just always scrubbed the tub well before getting in.

My midwives give you some herbal bath "tea" for postpartum, and encourage you to bathe in in as soon as you can postpartum. Wonderful stuff. There is no way I would do without my PP baths, or my peri bottle, two things very necessary PP.
