I've been inspired - fleece soaker questions

So I've been inspired by another thread and I want to try sewing a fleece soaker from this pattern. But I don't know what kind of fleece I need.

We don't have any really good fabric stores here in town (that I've found anyway) so I'll probably have to order online. I was looking at the Joanns site tonight and got really confused. : There are so many kinds of fleece! Microfleece, anti-pill fleece, blizzard fleece, ultra cuddle fleece, etc. What should I use? :

And any other advice about making this pattern would be lovely! :

I get my fleece from joanns. I feel the fleece & pick the thicker stuff. It has worked for me so far.

microfleece is good for a stay dry liner but not for a cover

I've heard that Jo-Ann's blizzard fleece works well for fleece soakers. I've used that pattern for making wool soakers and it is really fun & easy!

Good to know about the microfleece. I thought I remembered something like that from DD2, but it was so long ago.

Unfortunately we don't have a Joann's near us (closest is 50-odd miles) so I can't do a feel test.

I'll have to order a yard and give it a try then. Thanks!

I use JA anti pill fleece and that works well. If you were to place an order and it is a little on the thin side, you could always add an extra layer in the wetzone.

if ordering online anyway, look for malden mills fleece. it's infinitely better for soakers than JA fleece

I just bought fleece and am going to try this pattern too! I was wondering if it would be good to have elastic enclosed in the waist and legs or is that unnessicary???

I am also going to add extra fleece in the wet zone!!! So excited!!!

Sites say that fleece is good for night time...have you found that they are good?

you don't need to add elastic. the fleece has some stretch in it.

I always add extra in the wet zone (better safe than sorry )

I've never tried them for night

Hi, I just made one a couple days ago with Malden Mills fleece not the solid colors but a print so I think 200 wt. I used an extra layer in the wet zone. It worked great. My DS was sitting on my lap when he peed too and the soaker felt suddenly warm but it held great, my DS is a super soaker. I would recommend sizing up though the pattern runs small. I also made the waist band taller and the leg cuffs wider for better coverage we use motherease one size fitteds on the largest setting and they are sort of bulky compared to others. I hope this helps. I love our soaker my son does too he pets it with his little hands because its so fuzzy and fluffy.

Well alrighty. I found some practice fleece at a thrift store and cut out all the pieces. But I can NOT figure out how to put them all together. I can figure the body easily, but HOW do you put on the waist and leg bands????????

I made pocket diapers using JA anti-pill fleece which I got great prices on when they had their 40% sale on it (I think they do that every few months or so). The outside layer of the diaper is 2 layers of the fleece, and then the inside layer is just some microfiber suede stuff, and then I made cotton inserts and they worked great during the day. They do hold up at night, but there is some wicking so I usually put a cover on at night to help her from smelling like piddle in the morning. Not sure if that helps you at all on covers for the night, but I think that a cover made from fleece would work great during the day if my diapers did!

I have just made two wraps from Jo Ann's anti pill fleece. I will let you know how they hold up! They're beauties, though.
