Any mamas near Lynchburg, VA?

Hi! I am in Apex, NC right now (near Raleigh) but we are trying to find a way to make it back to Lynchburg. I'm from there and 95% of my family still lives there. I was hoping that I won't be the only cloth diapering, baby wearing person in the town! I'd also love a delay vax friendly ped recommendation! Thanks, ladies!!

check out www.beststartparentingcenter.com
they do a mother's tea and what not. I would think you'd find like minded moms
there. I hope this helps.

I'm not a mama yet, but I hope to be sometime in the near-ish future

It doesn't seem like there are too many people from Lynchburg on MDC, but I wanted to let you know there there was at least one, who is at least planning on a future homebirth, cloth diapers and baby wearing.

Welcome back to Lynchburg and I hope things go well for your family

I'm in L-burg. I've lived her for about 4.5 years now. We're pretty happy here. Can't help much though, I don't have and recommendations and I'm not *yet* a cd/bw mama. Maybe in a year I'll be there though!

Hope you can make it back here. (We love NC though!)

Hello from another Lynchburg momma!
I want to invite you to our local LLL meetings( 3rd Fri of the month) and Birthmatters meetings(3rd Tues of the month). They are great places to meet other like minded moms. Feb.'s Birthmatters meeting is on babywearing and cloth diapers! I recommend checking our Advocates for Children for a ped. Dr. Mumper is fantastic and has spoken all over the world about Autism.
Best Start is the areas place for slings and cloth diapers so check them out!

Hey guys,
I don't hang out here much but happened to find this thread.

I am not currently in Lynchburg (though I grew up there, we moved away 5+ yrs ago, and like you 95% of my family is there) but dh recently got a job back 'home' and we will be moving back . . . hopefully within a year (just have work to finish on this house, then wait till we find a farm we can afford).

We are a christian homebirthing (UC), unschooling, CD/EC, extended BF (stll nursing my 4 and 2 yr olds), babywearing (and business owning), family bedding (still with all 6 of us) no vax, no circ, yadda, yadda, family. We are pretty 'out there' as the kids have never even been to a dr and haven't even had any OTC meds . . . we use all natural stuff. But like Kelli said, I have friends who use Dr Mumper and she is supposed to be the best so she would be the first person to turn to in town IMO.

I am currently in Winchester VA and we have a GREAT families for natural living group in town that meets weekly (we have a potluck this afternoon actually). . . We are always doing co-ops, taking turns driving to PA for raw milk, they are a great bunch of families . . . I am REALLY going to miss them when we move!

Oh and I wanted to say 'hey' Kelli!!! I didn't know you had another little one!! Big congrats!! I am due with #5 in May.

Thanks Kelli! I am so excited to see someone mention the birthmatters events. I had found the website last month, but the dates hadn't been updated yet. I tried to email to see if they would be doing the meetings again this year, but hadn't heard back. I'm so happy to see the website has been updated. We will definitely be checking it out!

Smurf,
No problem, I just fussed at the group for not updating the site yet, glad they did it.

Not to hyjack the thread but..... HI Kelley!!! You are not going to believe this, but I was just on your Kozy site last night showing DH and dreaming up a way to get a carrier. Then we went to your other site and were admiring your pg photos and I said I wonder if she is having another baby yet....I miss Kelley. Yes we had a new little bundle back in Aug. DH's birthday none the less and love him to bits, home water birth this time, then transfer after the birth...long story. I cannot wait for you guys to come back. How awesome is that? I know your family must be thrilled. I hope to catch up soon......I don't think we have a FNL group here yet. I think one tried to get started a few years back but it didn't happen. There is an AP group that stemmed out of LLL that goes on hikes and park dates. I need to talk to an expert about ECing.....drop me a line sometime. Take care!

Hi,
I am Lynda and live in Vinton not far from Lynchburg. You'll find lots of cloth diapering and homebirthing mama's. I go to a monthly homebirth meeting.

I just moved to Lynchburg last week, and I'm so excited to see that there are some MDC ladies here!

I'm not mama yet, but my DH and I plan to start to TTC around July.

I know absolutely nobody here yet (well except for my husband and real estate agent...), and I've been nervous about finding a like minded network when the time comes. I'm happy to hear that there's an active LLL meeting, and I will have to learn more about Birthmatters!

I've gotta put in a plug for Birth Matters. I finally got to attend my first one last night. It was so awesome!! And I got to meet Kelli (EthansMom)... that was so cool! Kim went with me. We were made to feel so welcome and so accepted. I can’t even explain how wonderful that was. It was a (really) small group last night, and they were actually having a bit of a planning session, so Kim and I got to give input on what we would like to see covered and we got lots of attention - it was fun and very informational to have the opportunity to talk to experienced mamas about our getting knocked up plans. I can’t wait for the next one!!

I looked up the Birth Matters website, and it looks like the April meeting is supposed to be on Hydrotherapy/Waterbirth. Does anyone know if this is still the topic that is planned?

I'm afraid I would feel out of place at the meeting since I'm not a mama/pregnant yet, but waterbirth is a topic I'm very interested in. I am admittedly on the shy side, so it's a little hard for me to show up to things like this where I don't know anyone.

Thanks for the information anyone can give!

Hi Annie,

AFAIK, they haven't changed the topic for the next meeting, but Kelli would know better. Hopefully, she will chime in.

As far as feeling out of place and being shy, I can totally relate! I was worried about feeling out of place b/c we're not pregnant yet either, but we were made to feel so welcome! It is such an awesome group. I would have felt so shy coming by myself, I am really grateful my wife could come. It really helped though to meet Kelli and know that I *knew* her from the mb. I hope you can come!

Thanks Courtney, that makes me feel better about coming! You are lucky to have someone to go with you.

Unless we have family in from out of town that week (not yet ready to tell them we're going to start TTC), I'm going to plan on being at the April meeting. It sounds like a good time!

Hope to see you there!
