Episode of "Yes Dear" yesterday

I am not usually home during the day, but I was yesterday, and I had the tv on. "Yes Dear" was on, and this is a show I haven't seen before. It made me so angry!

The whole show was about how people who breastfeed past one-year-old are crazy and are only doing it for themselves (ie "the boobs"). It opened with a playground scene where a mother was extended breastfeeding her son, and led to the main characters deciding they had to wean their one-year-old that instant. It also mentioned circumcision. (The dad said, "I have to do all the hard stuff. I had to cut the cord, witness the circumcision..."

I was yelling at the tv.

It made me think that if someone was watching the show and considering breast v. bottle, that they would think, "Wow, it looks really hard to wean from the breast to the bottle. I think I'll just avoid that whole mess and go straight to the bottle."

It mentioned no benefits to breastfeeding at all, except getting a nice rack.

It's a sitcom. Meant to be funny. So not anything to get mad at.

Most people think I am nuts for still nursing my 15 month old. That's the norm. People don't get it. I nursed my first till 19 months and that was not long enough for me.

As for the big boobs... I can hardly WAIT for them to go away. Mine are K cups now and I can't stand the back pain!!!

Seriously, though, just laugh at it. Don't take everything so seriously. :

I agree. Anyone who takes advice from a tv show needs to get better resources. Plus this is an old show, it was done 3-4 years ago.

That show also showed the main mom nursing her 1yo just "for the boobs" and no one knew she was still doing it. She was horrified when they found out. Then she gave the kid to daddy with a bottle and cut him off cold turkey.

also they did a pro spanking episode.

But I do like their theme song

The mother of the twins who played the one year old child in this show was an acquaintance of mine back when the show was being filmed, and she was very active in So. CA AP/NFL circles. She caught a lot of flack about this episode in particular, and honestly felt very bad about how BF past 12 months was portrayed. It took her awhile to feel comfortable attending AP gatherings again after this episode aired. I felt bad for her... she was a young mom with a military DH away from the family (stationed in Hawaii - she stayed in Hollywood with the kids by herself to film), and she didn't seem to know how to advocate for better story lines for her children.
