My deodorant is failing me

Thread Starter
Recently my Tom's of Maine lemongrass deodorant has quit working. I've been wearing it for a while, generally only when I have to leave the house. At home I just use a spray of alcohol, which isn't really effective, but nobody here seems to mind.
Has anyone else had a deodorant failure? What can I try? I enjoy a little fragrance, and I'm willing to make my own or try another commercially available brand? Advice?

I feel the same about my Toms of maine deoderant. I haven't found anything better but I keep using it because I decided being mildly stinky is better than getting cancer from the other stuff... I notice, but DH says he can't tell unless he gets close (like his nose in my armpit).

For two years (?) I used watery baking soda and it was awesome!

No exaggeration, if I ever skipped two mornings worth of showers, it was still working perfectly at the end of the third day.

Then I started getting a rash from it -- only on my right armpit. Two days of not using it and the rash would be gone. But as soon as I started using it again, the rash was immediate.

So I took a break for a couple months, then went back to it. It was fine for a few weeks, then the rash came back. And always only on the right armpit.

So now I use aloe squeezed out of an arm of my aloe plant, but it's not nearly as effective (lasts about 6 hours).

I miss my awesome baking soda!

Thai Crystal Spray http://www.amazon.com/Thai-Crystal-D.../dp/B000B969B4 its the best I've found, and I've tried a lot. I also like a couple of other things, but I seem to have a sensitivity to baking soda...

I have no luck with Tom's. I only use it at home now. When I go out I use the salt rock thing (sorry, don't know it's name). In our extreme summers I use the salt rock and it usually still works well (unless I'm in te heat all day or doing physical work).

I gave up trying to use natural deoderants so I use conventional stuff, but I still have to switch brands every other time because they quit working by the end of the stick.

As for the baking soda, my aunt was using that(and brushing her teeth with baking soda) and actually ended up with a b vit deficiency because of the baking soda, so you do want to be careful with that.

I use Jason's Organic and so far so good.

I use the solid crystal ones & they work great. I have found I need to rub it across the armpit 30 or so times each pit, but after that I'm set & can get 2 days out of it.

Whoa... never heard of that. Any idea why that might happen?

My neither, and when she found out she immediately called me because she knows I like to do things naturally as well.

As far as I can remember it inhibits the body from absorbing b vitamins.

Funk butter is more effective than any deodorant I've ever tried, including the mainstream, scary-ingredient ones!

me too. though, I sometimes sprinkle a little baking soda (like, if I forgot to put deodorant on and am too lazy to go back upstairs )

Now I wonder about the vit b deficiency thing. I take extra, hope they are being absorbed!!

I use the crystal roll-on and it works well. Been using it for years. I have also used the crystal spray, which worked, but I didn't like the trickle of liquid down my sides. LOL I have also used the crystal rock that you get wet (or use on wet skin). It is my second fave. It lasts years, so it is the most economical ime.

I tried the scented alcohol sprays (like BBW body sprays) as deodorant a few times. OUCH!!!!!! I hadn't even shaved one morning and OUCH!!! I was hoping to get a scent occasionally and use up those sprays that I already own. Ha.

5000% agree! I'm a stink-meister and this stuff ROCKS! I've used it exclusively for 3 years now - Black Cedar Fig smells awesome --- I run marathons with funk butter! Love it!

Just a heads up on the Funk Butter. If you react to baking soda under your arms, as I do, the Funk Butter will cause pits of fire. Baking soda is funny this way. Some can use it and others simply cannot.

My husband and I have used a liquid version of a deodorant stone (we both eventually reacted to the stone itself) with great results for some years now. I use the roll-on, he prefers the spray. We use the one you can buy for $3 at Wal-Mart or Target. It is quite good.

I don't think our local Walmart or Target carries the stone for $3 or for any price unfortunately. Do you know the brand name so I can start badgering the store mgr. to start stocking it? Thanks.

I use the crystal roll-on and the crystal rock itself. I reapply during the day if needed. They work ok.

Dh and I both use the Thai deoderant stone with great results.

I've been using a mixture of coconut oil and baking soda for well over a year now. It is the best deodorant I've ever tried. In the winter I can go 36 hours without stinking; in the summer, not so long, but it definitely lasts all day.

Nothing works for me except Funk Butter. Unfortunately the scented ones gave me a rash after a while. So now I am trying unscented in hopes that I can keep using it!
