What do I do with an accidental felting?

DH accidentally shrunk his burgundy wool sweater that I made him last winter. He forgot that he could wash in the washer, and he didn't realize I had the water set on HOT from the previous load.

Now, it's REALLY felted. It shrank from a men's large to probably a boys small. I am considering trying to make a bag out of it...it is VERY tightly felted. I am wondering if I can just cut it with scissors without it unraveling...I have no experience with felting, but my dh seems to be an expert!

Oh no Yep, snip a little bit down the seam and see what happens. If it doesn't unravel, it's felt.

i've done that before too...it's unfortunate, but i have saved the items and made (sewed) all sorts of things. you can even use the seams for stuffing or at the base of a felt ball.

good luck!

I used to buy wool sweaters from thrift stores and felt them. I made bags, pot handle covers, trivets for hot pans, cuff bracelets.
