I love the thrift store! - Page 5

i got a new Heart-2-Heart sling, my fave carrier (I've worn out 2 already) for $5 last week! Ever since I got a lovely Maya wrap a few years back for practically nothing, I always check the baby carriers at the thrift store.

I went to a Goodwill in our area and spent $100. I got a lot of stuff that was new from Target and a Pottery Barn Kids crib bumper to re-sell.

I have 3 girls and tend to be picky with clothes b/c they have to last. I got the following brands: Nordstrom Kids, Talbots Kids, Ralph Lauren, Gap, Gymboree. DH was amazed at the quality, but I have an eagle eye for the good stuff. You definetly have to dig, but you can't beat the prices on the infant clothes. $1.25 or something crazy.

I need to swing by there again today. We're lucky that we have 4 close to us - 1 is great, one is for-profit and a little pricier but has nice stuff, one is VERY pricey and their kids clothes are awful (seriously I've never seen a pair of kids jeans in there that weren't ripped - and I don't mean a small hole!) but their ladies clothes are awesome, and the 4th is new so I haven't scoped it out much yet. Both kids have jumped up a size and DD is now the same size as her older brother in pants so I can't pass down his shorts from last year this time.

Over the past 2 months I've spent about $150-$180 at the thrift stores, but I've gotten SO MUCH! They have their ENTIRE spring and summer wardrobes plus a few things to tide over until the warm weather is here to stay (DD has few pants that fit! Jumped from a 4t to a 6 in 2 months - OUCH! LOL!).

DH has gone up a size and most his t-shirts (a staple for him) are fallng apart. I've gotten a good half dozen new ones for him that may have been worn once, and they're the nicer ones like Ralph Lauren Polo and Chaps, US Polo Assoc., Nike, etc. - $2 each!

We were able to find DS a headboard for his bed. $4 + a little bit of the tinted Old English and it looks NEW.

Both kids are huge into Pokemon, and I found 6 of the older videos for $1 each - plus I scored a tv/vcr comb for each of their rooms! One had the remote with it and was $19, the other didn't have the remote and was $15. (We're trying everything we can to get them over being "afraid" to be alone in their rooms, they can only watch movies and play the VSmile on them.)

I've also scored a deluxe Breadman breadmaker for $5 (with manuals, etc - maybe used once?), a foot spa for DH for $3 (brand new - it was something he needed), a couple pairs of shoes for me (I'm super picky about this, but there weren't even any wear creases and the original stickers were completely intact!), and thermos's for the kid's lunches. Oh yeah, and a beautiful red and black long wool coat for DD for winter for $5!

I find as a side effect of thrift store shopping I get almost physically ill going into someplace like Dillard's and even considering paying $20 for a pair of jeans for a 4 or 6 yr old! LOL!

Me too! I love thrift stores! The Salvation Army Family Store by my house has kids clothes on sale for 50% 3 times a week. That makes it only $0.60 each! Everytime I go I find 4-5 like-new, in-style, name brand pieces of clothing for my kids.

I was having a good thrift store streak for awhile but lately I've been in a bargain finding slump. I hope that by reading this thread all ya'lls thrifty good luck will rub off on me.

Today I hit the Salvation Army and found a pair of REI kids fleece bib pants to put under DS's snow pants (he is skinny and gets very cold easily) for $3, a pair of Land's End snow boots for $3, and a handful of gender neutral hair clips to keep his bangs out of his eyes for a quarter. I also found a very good condition Land's End snow suit in size 5 (for next year) for $5 at a church thrift store yesterday. Woo Hoo thift store shopping!!!

I do too. LAst week I found a gap denim jacket which is EXACTLY what I went in the store to look for for 5.00. I couldn't believe it was right in front of my eyes. Today i almost scored. I need a nicer coat for winter when I will be very pregnant and there was a nice Motherhood coat but it was a large and I pretty much need a small. Bummer.

I've had some great scores recently too - little tikes toybox for $14, like new doll crib {wooden - sell for $45 on amazon} for $3.50. I've been scoring the last of DD christmas gifts lately.

Still on the lookout for coats for both myself and DD - no luck.

I know it's not technically a thrift store, but EBAY can be awsome. My Mum found 2 pairs of birkenstocks for me. One is a mary jane style, brand new, still in their box. The other is a pair of the 'classic' sandals that were listed as gently used, but show no wear at all! She got both pairs (and shipping) for $37.
