After pains

This is a "what worked for me" post. I have always had incredibly painful afterpains starting with baby #1. I get nausea and vomiting from the pain within 20 minutes of delivering the placenta and it lasts for 2-3 days and then 2-3 days of more manageable pain, I have tried, Cramp bark, After-ease tincture, Motrin, Tylenol w/codeine, etc. nothing worked. With baby #6 my midwife gave me 5 capsules of the herb Devil's Claw just before I started pushing (she remembered what my afterpains were like with #5). After he was born I waited for what I thought was coming pain wise and although very uncomfortable I didn't throw up! and they only lasted a total of 3-4 days. I took 4 capsules every 3-4 hours depending on the pain. I tried it again with my labor 2 weeks ago, 5 capsules just before starting to push and 4 more every 3-4 hours. I didn't throw up at all this time as well and they only lasted 3-4 days. I wish my midwives with my first 4 had known this.

I hope this helps!

Best wishes to those still waiting to hold their babies!

Thanks!

I always get terrible after pains (well, starting with #3, and this is #5). Last time they were worse than labor pains! Of course all my others were hospital births and other than advil etc. (which I can't take) I just had to deal with them. This time I purchased After Ease Tincture, so we'll see how that works. But if it doesn't I will definately look into the devil's claw.
