How do I know if rhogam has mercury in it?

I'm trying to decide whether or not to get the prenatal rhogam shot and for me, mercury will be one of the deciding factors. My midwife is willing to go either way and has not pressured me at all. I got the shot from my doctor (who is working with us very well) and I have it in my refridgerator for the midwife to administer.

My question is, How can I tell from looking at the box and packaging and insert if there is mercury in it? I can't find an ingredients list, but it does say that it is "preservative free". Would that mean there is no mercury? The brand is HyperRHO manufactured by Talecris Biotherapeutics, Inc.

Thanks for any info!

If it says "preservative free," that should mean there is no thimerosol (the preservative that contains mercury). You could always contact the manufacturer to be sure. What did your doctor or midwife say when you asked them?

Supposedly, all rhogam is now thimerosal-free. (And yes, it's a preservative.) They say they stopped putting it in there enough years ago that all the remaining thimerosal-containing ones should have expired a while ago. So as long as your dose isn't expired, it is supposed to be okay.

Here's the site with the product info. I looked at the full-dose version (that seems like the one you'd use if you use it) and was surprised not to see a very clear list of ingredients. It doesn't look like it has thimerosol based on the preservative-free description, whether they ever used it in the manufacturing process and filtered it out is unclear (not sure if they have to list trace amounts).
