The "What to knit?" conundrum

I really want to knit but I can't figure out what to do. Every pattern I find I don't have the needles for, or I don't have the yarn for. I was very close to going to Michael's or Joann's to pick up a pair of circs but I know Dh would have had a fit. I tried to make a mini-market bag today (mini, because I was working with smaller dpns than needed because I only have one size). The pattern called for switching to circs as soon as possible but I decided to just keep it on dpns since I don't have circs. I soon found out why the pattern called for circs- it is near impossible to to turkish lace stitch on dpns. Anyway I ended up with a mess and frogged the whole thing. What a shame since the first 1/2 was beautiful.

So since I can't knit, I've decided to whine- really mature, right?

Do you only have DPNs? If so, socks are fun, or hats.
Needles aren't very expensive. You should be able to get a circ needle for under $10. Surely your DH wouldn't have a fit about that.

Yup, one set of size 10 1/2 dpns. And yes, he would throw a fit cause I spent my pocket money for this pay period (mostly on my MBOY!) so now I have to wait. . . . and find something I can knit with what I have on hand. I'm thinking maybe leg warmers but I keep thinking how much easier they would be on circs.

You know, I used to have that problem all the time, and I thought I had quite a few needles and a lot of yarn. But for me I had to have a huge stash (like more than 20 balls of yarn) to be able to find stuff to make without needing to buy anything. I make just about everything in worsted now.

I know projects have specific needle sizes and weights and all, but I tend to fudge needle size a bit, and try a few rows to see if it is working.

I am sure many knitters would roll their eyes at me but I am in the learning stage and use every opportunity to try something new.

Are you on Ravelry? You can always go there and do a search for the yarn you do have, and find lots of projects.

Legwarmers sound like a good project for the DPN's you have. Even a 16" circ (probably the smalled you will find in a store like Michaels or Joanns) might be too big for legwarmers.
