My DS is here, and he's staying intact!

I just had my DS Dylan at home on the 9th. : I just wanted to share my story here, to encourage other moms-to-be and thank all the awesome moms (and dads) on here who helped me keep DS intact!

Before I got pregnant, I assumed that any sons I had would be circumcised - it's just what's done, according to my previous mindset. I assumed there was a reason for it, and it's what I was used to. But then I joined MDC and started reading up on everything, including circumcision. I have to admit, I was a little surprised at first at how, um, vehement some people get about the issue (of course, now I'm a total intactivist too - y'all converted me! ). Anyway, I quickly changed my mind after I learned more and swore that no one would hurt any son of mine like that...

Well, DH is circ'd (religious reasons) and REALLY, REALLY wanted to circ any sons we had ("I want him to look like me" "He'll look different than the other boys" etc.). It caused a lot of stress and arguments and tears for many months. We didn't find out the gender, so I was very anxious about what would happen if he turned out a boy. But, I got a lot of great advice and "talking points" from reading here in the CAC, and eventually convinced DH to at least agree not to circ DS, even if he wanted to. He agreed. Well, now it seems that he's come around and agrees with the decision! His parents asked if our pediatrician would be doing the circ and he told them we wouldn't be circ'ing. They asked why and he said it's not necessary. They asked if we had researched it and he said yes, of course. They asked him to ask our pediatrician for her advice before we make our final decision. He told them we would just to placate them. So, we went to our ped and he asked her, but he said it wouldn't matter what she said, he was only asking because his folks wanted him to . They haven't brought it up since, and he seems happy that DS is intact.
I am so thrilled that I found MDC and CAC - I had such a wonderful homebirth and my precious boy is still as perfect as when he was born! Thanks to everyone here!

Congratulations on the birth of your son and your very wise decision to leave him intact. You will forever feel proud to have kept him intact and protected his genital integrity. :::

*Always remember to make sure no one tries to manipulate or retract his foreskin in any way shape or form*

Thanks!

She said the only medical reason was the small reduction in rates of penile cancer, which itself is incredibly rare - so basically there is no real medical reason. She wasn't exactly anti-circ, but she did point out how it's often done without anesthesia and that it's very painful (duh ), and there's no reason for it unless you just want to do it. She also said she doesn't see many circs except for bris'.
