What do you do with books you don't want to keep? Do you sell them? Where?

I donate them. We have a donation truck that comes around once a month or so collecting items to sell to benefit disabled veterans.

i buy mostly gently used. i cant buy what i want to buy. i buy from what is out there.

i feel for those who are in a situation like me. so i place them on free places wherever i find them. like community centers. at work. at fellowship adn sometimes at coffee shops. or just put them in a box saying free. or donate them at garage sales. or donate them to specific charities.

once i had put the box of books outside where there is a lot of foot traffic and people just came and so many were just speechless that they could pick up some of those books free.i was so thrilled to come across genuine readers. some specific books i donate to senior citizen's libraries too.

depends on what your aim is. do you want to make some money off of selling books.

or would you like to donate them to needy people for whom even the 50 cents is a hardship.

i also give my dd's books to the local homeless shelter school.

Our local bookstore will buy books...........but usually only the newer, in better shape ones. Others I donate.

Used book store so I can get trade credit on other used books.

We put our books on bookins (since we send out and don't get much it's cheaper -- sending out a book is free; bookmooch is the opposite. Don't know about the other swap sites). I have also sold books to Powells.com and gotten credit to get new stuff. We can't donate to any thrifts here, or the library -- I recently found out that the senior centers will take some books, so the next batch may go there first.

I put 'em on my garage sales. If they don't go, they get donated to the local library, one of the local hospitals, or GoodWill. I need to dig out a box to get rid of again - My book collection is getting to big... Now, if I could get dh to part with 1/2 of his comic book collection I would be a happy woman (he has 42 long boxes full).

I didn't know such a thing was possible.

i sell them on amazon because i need whatever extra income i can get. whatever isn't in good enough shape to sell i donate to goodwill.

I do several things depending on the book. I have sold several cookbooks and childrens books on ebay. I also donate some to GoodWill or the Salvation Army and others I put in the free book bin at the library. There are several boxes in the lobby of the library where you can take or leave books and magazines.....that is usually what we have been doing. I also donate old VHS to the library which they sell

I usually have different piles. One goes to the bookstore for used book credit, one goes to a friend giveaway pile and one goes to freecycle.

Either paperbackswap.com or the thrift shop.

Either sell them at Hastings, donate them to the mission, or give them away on freecycle.

I donate them to Goodwill.

I do paperbackswap for some, and the ones that don't go there used to go to our "free table" at work. I don't work anymore, so I'll have to find a new place.

I either pass them along to my SIL, donate to the library or www.bookcrossing.com - when we lived in an apartment building (like, 30+ floors, about 330 apartments) I would put them in a box labled "free to good home" in a common area.
