Hi All--
Carrie Kenner, a DONA-approved doula trainer from Seattle, is coming to Juneau to do a birth doula training from March 6-9th 2009. Carrie trained Aurah Landau several years ago, and comes with the highest recommendations. If you're interested in doing the training, or if you know anyone who might be interested in becoming a birth doula, please encourage them to visit Carrie's website and/or to contact her
directly:

http://www.bigbellyservices.com/ (on the left side of the site click on "doula event dates," go to March, and you'll find the AK training)

The cost of the 4-day training is $400. A $200 deposit is requested at the time of registration, or by February 1, 2009. If you register and pay in full by January 31, the cost is $375. If you have completed a previous training through either DONA or another organization, you are welcome to attend for only $200. Carrie just asks that you inform her of the type and date of the training you attended. You are encouraged to register early, even if you can’t pay at that time, so that we know the number of trainees to plan for. The deadline for registration is February 20. Registrations after that date may be possible on a
space-available basis. If you plan to register for the class, please
let Carrie, or me know so that we're sure we have the numbers for the class to run. The class will be held at the Juneau Family Health and Birth Center.
I've pasted an outline/description of the training below, and have attached the flier to this message. Please feel free to contact me if you have any logistical questions.

I'm very much looking forward to this.
Hope you all are well!

I wish I had seen this when it was first posted! (Of course, I wasn't a member yet) I've been scrambling to get everything set up the last few days and am *hoping* my books make it here in time for me to read them...or even just take them with me! Anyway, I found out about the class, luckily, through other means and am flying to Juneau for it. I'm so excited! Great to hear Carrie is so well-regarded. I've been appreciative of her email responses thus far. Are you helping to sponsor the class or involved with DONA?

man, that sucks. Flying into Juneau is not an option for me right now. Bummer.

Is she planning a trip to ANchroage or Fairbanks ever?

I think there already are DONA courses offered in Anchorage on a regular basis.

Go to: http://www.dona.org/develop/birth_cert.php and there is a page (think you click on classes in the body of the page) that will let you search for a course by city/state, PP or birth doula and dates.

Best of luck!

Does anyone know if they ever offer PP doula courses in Juneau?
