I agree!

My almost 7 yo wants to be a vet. She's said this-- and only this-- since she was 3, never wavering. She loves playing this Pet Pals game (psst-- I got it for under $10 PPD on e-bay). I can see it paying off . . .when we play vet, she asks really good questions. Tonight while we were at Picture People, there was a portrait of a dog up, and she was telling me how though it looked like a Collie, it was actually a Shetland Sheepdog . . .describing the differences between the 2 breeds. She loves looking at a dog breed book we have, always trying to pick the perfect breed. We don't even own a dog. (poor girl!) I hope she does become a vet because I would trust her completely with our animals!

My 3 yo used to want to be a firefighter. When she was in preschool for a few months, the firefighters did a demo involving Elmo, which completely freaked her out since she apparently does not like puppets like that. DD now refuses to look at/read/discuss ANYTHING about firefighters. On the notes home from the teacher, it said, "M asked Mrs. R to cancel the firefighters next time." It was shortly after the firefighter thing that DD protested going to school, so I pulled her out.

these responses are so cute!

DS, when he was younger wanted to "be a brain doctor." he said when he got tired of that he'd "switch to being an animal doctor."

over the years it's changed a lot...video game designer, artist, chef, photographer (nature and/or sports), lawyer, teacher, rock star, inventor, bus driver, boxer, counselor/child psychologist, etc. now he says, "i don't want to be or do just ONE thing. i want to do LOTS of things! i want to learn new things and become an expert and make some money and help people...and maybe be famous but only if i can keep my privacy. oh...and i dont' want to work in an office -- at least not one i have to go to every day."

Our 6.5 yr old wants to be a toy designer for Playmobil. He's planning to live in Europe and wants us to live next door to him. He's been talking about this career for a few years now.

Our 3.5 yr old plans to "work with mama."

DD has wanted to be a great many things in the past few years: director ("like Hayao Miyazaki!"), archaeologist, detective ("like Nancy Drew!"), singer, vet, zoo designer...right now she wants to be a stage actress. She's 10.

dd who is 10 wants to work with theater and such. She actually just had her very first job. She makes more an hour than me doing voice-overs for cartoons. She loves it and wants to do more.

ds1 wants to be a Organic farmer/Aikido instructor. His wish is to have cows and produce the most wonderful, organic, raw cheese (he loves cheese y'all....lol). He is 8 years old.

DD (almost 6) has told me she wants to be a midwife or a farmer. There was another career goal, very briefly, but I can't remember what it was. Usually, it's a midwife.

my boys

my 14 year old has been saying for years now that he wants to be an architect
my 7 year old has always wanted to be a "mad scientist" and now wants to be a geologist or archaeologist or both (while doing "art stuff on the side") and my 5 yr old wants to be Batman! OH and he also wants to buy food for people.... not sure if that means work in a grocery store?

DD1 (age 6) wants to be the following: a fashion model, a singer, a comic book artist, and a mom. She told me she was really concerned that I would die and wouldn't be able to watch her kids while she was at her other jobs. Cute in a morbid kind of way. I didn't know what to say to that except I was sure that she'd be able to afford a full-time nanny with all those jobs.

loving these career goals here on this thread. totally hilarious and great and adorable. my 6.5 yr old dd wants to be an orthopedic surgeon, the first woman president, an inventor, a scientist, an organic farmer, an animal rescuer, a breastfeeding, homebirthin' mama, a fashion designer, and a rock star, not in any particular order!

My 6 yr old wants to be "everything everything everything in this huge big world!!!!" :

For now it is a dog walker/astronaut/farmer/artist/scientist.

She is obsessed with dogs and animals. I don't want a dog though. I feel like I'm going to ruin her life if I don't get her a dog. UGH! When she's old enough maybe I can hook up some volunteer opportunities with lots of dogs.

DD wants to be a vet. She's been saying this for years, and she's only 4.5. She has a real affinity for animals, with our 5 cats and the horses at the barn where she rides. The barn called us so she and DH can go over and watch what's happening! This week she watched them "float the teeth" which basically means file them down. She loves telling the whole story about how they did it!

I your kid!

Dd2 (4.5): dancer, doctor, mother, etc

Dd1 (7): court jester, novelist, broadway director, court jester, research scientist, court jester

I hate to mention that there just aren't that many royal courts left in this world and that, as far as I know, none of them employ jesters.

My 7 yr old ds also wants to be a wizard (Harry Potter Fan) or a police officer or a security guard (whichever is safer).

My 4 yr old ds wants to be a dolphin trainer or "bomb squat" (he means bomb squad...and yes, he is my daredevil).

when my son was 3 he told me "when i grow up i want to be an airplane." (not a pilot, an *airplane*) :

now at almost 7 he told me "i don't think i want to design buildings (my mom is an architect), i want to blow them up." we watched a demolition program on discovery and he LOVED it.

DS, who is almost 9, has wanted to be a fireman since he was 2. He wants to do the forest fire/airplane kinda stuff at the moment. He also wants to make movies and robots. We are working on the latter two right now.

DD1, who is almost 7, wants to be a ballerina and a midwife. She has gone to most of the prenatal visits for her three younger siblings and was at the latest birth. She got to cut the cord and is very proud of that and tells everyone.

DD2, who is 4, says midwife but I think that is because she wants to be like her big sister.

The other two girls are too young.

I just asked DD again and here is what I got:

Me: I'm curious, what do you want to be when you grow up?
DD: MMMM, I don't know, what do you think?
Me: What do I think? I think you can be anything you want to be.
DD: Then I want to be a Mommy like you and then I can have whatever I want for breakfast.

I was both and as she can already have whatever she wants for breakfast! Kids are so funny!

My 9 year old wants to be a vegan chef and own his own restaurant (he says I can work for him) and he also wants to be a guitar player in a band!

My 7 year old wants to be a waiter at his brothers vegan restaurant! He pretends to be a waiter every night at dinner (wearing his apron)!

My 3 year old just wants to breastfeed all day and doesn't care about growing up,lol!

my 2 year old and i just had a conversation about growing up. she wanted to know where the milk was in her boobies. (first she wanted to know where her boobies were!) when i told her she would grow up and get big and then have boobies she wanted to know if she could then nurse! this apparently would be the easiest and most convenient way to get mamas milk!! when i said she would have to have a baby first then, she would have milk, she looked all over for her baby and demanded to know where it was!!

so i guess she wants to be a mama, but mainly for the milk aspect!!
