Showing off my first quilt

I finished this last fall but just got around to taking pictures of it. It was my first 'big' project and I'm pretty pleased with the results. It took a while as it was for DP and I couldn't work on it when he was around. The funniest part is that I made it with all his old t-shirts that he couldn't bear to part with but he didn't seem to notice they were missing during the months I was working on this!

T-shirt quilt

I found some great volcom material online printed with show posters of a lot of his favorite punk bands so I used it in between the blocks as shown here

For the backing I used an embroidered Chicago Bears fleece material

Thanks for looking!

What a great way to save those beloved t-shirts. Nice work!

cool.

I have a stack of tshirts buried in my sewing closet waiting to become a quilt. I think you've inspired me.

Is the inbetween fabric a woven fabric? How did it go piecing it to the knit of the tshirt material? I'm a little afraid of seaming knit/woven.

The material in between was advertised as a jersey knit. It went together great with the t-shirt material. Some of the T-shirts were really threadbare so I ironed all the tshirt blocks with fusible interfacing to an old sheet. It was kind of thick so I was apprehensive about sewing it to the jersey fabric but it came out fine, just loosen the tension on your stitches.

Thanks for all the compliments! I am very proud of it, mistakes and all.

Now I'm wondering what to do with the leftover jersey knit punk band-poster fabric. I got it on ebay and bought the rest of the bolt so I still have 3+ yards of it.

Fantasic! I've hear about such quilts and never saw one!

What to do with the leftover fabric? How about making a couple of pillows to go with the quilt, with or without t-shirts (if you don't have any leftover shirts)?
