I will definitely be lighting a candle for Brighid today.
Am planning on lighting a candle today too. Can't believe I am down to one candle in the entire house. Shocking. Have to do some candle hunting since I won't have time to pour any for a while. Next two weekends are going to be nutty.

Have a good day
me too!

I don't have any beeswax or soy candles right now. Will battery operated flickering tea lights work instead?

I just put a little Imbolc meditation up on my blog if you're interested.

honestly, we sort of do it when it feels right/works best for our odd schedule... dh works evenings a lot, so we tend to move our celebrations to when it's more likely to be more fun, lol. in my research i read some celebrate the eve of the 31st, some the eve of the 1st, and some a very odd assortment of various days in feb. (seriously, one site listed like the 5-7th). i've NO idea about the astrological thing, since it was originally a "celebrate the day you move the sheep to the lower fields" lol....

RE: WHEN:

found a long and complex answer, from here:

The most common practice for the calculation of Samhain, Oimelc, Beltane & Lughnasadh is to use the civil calendar days or their preceding eves of November 1st, February 1st, May 1st and August 1st, respectively. Another way is to use one or more of the days of the weekend closest to each of these dates (which may arguably be closer to how the Paleopagans did it — i.e., by maximum convenience). Still others choose to use the sixth day after the new or full moon closest to each of these dates. Astrologically oriented Neopagans use the days upon which the Sun enters 15 degrees of each of the “Fixed Signs” of the Zodiac, to wit: “Eagle Point” = 15 degrees of Scorpio, “Man” or “Angel Point” = 15 degrees of Aquarius, “Ox Point” =15 degrees of Taurus and “Lion Point” = 15 degrees of Leo. Still others use those days upon which the Sun hits 16 degrees and 18 minutes declination North or South of the Celestial Equator. This also makes them come halfway between the Solstices and Equinoxes, and usually gives results within a few hours of those given by the Fixed Signs method.
eta: i guess that makes me a neo-paleopagan... lol. ;-)

Irish Soda Bread

Anyone want to join me for a cup of tea and a slice of Irish Soda Bread fresh from my hearth?

What a beautiful bread and beautiful sentiment!

LOL I was reading through this, the whole time going "WHY didn't anyone tell me we had a thread going for this?? HOW did I miss it??". Then the date finally clicked for me

I've had this thread open aaaaaaaaaaaalllllllllllll day!

I've been celebrating by cleaning. Cleaning my room! Not entirely, but now I have walking space, and it makes me feel better. I've been working so hard for the last 2 days, hopefully it will continue all week! I'm VERY tired though.

Happy Imbolc!

I have like two candles left. I am SO disorganized for this celebration. Well, that is not unlike any other celebration. Actually Winter Solstice I had down!

I am unsure of what I am going to be doing today. I have someone coming over tomorrow for a celebration. I have NO clue what to do with her. No clue. I have only met her a few times and my husband knows her ( she works with him). I am trying to not feel uncomfortable because I NEED new friends. And a Pagan friend would be lovely.

Any ideas on what we could do that would be good?

I had 4 candles burning in my window last night, and I put all my seed packets along my kitchen window (my kitchen altar). My husband snickered and said "planning your garden"

I said "yes actually, these are the things that I'm hoping to grow this year." I have less than half the produce from last year planned (last year was my first garden) but I have like 5 times the FLOWERS! I can't wait to get seeding!! I'll have to wait another month at least before I can start my seeds inside. We always get one last blast of winter frost in early March. Last year it killed quite a few sprouts. I was rather annoyed.

Autumn Breeze- I have some seeds too. This year I'll be growing a lot of ground covers. And I want flowers to cut for inside. And salsa ingredients

Clay- My girls are going to be happy today when we make some wish beans! Thanks for the idea

This was fantastic to be able to dig out last year's thread. I'll be lighting candles and thinking of all of you today.

The sun is going to be out when I go running this morning, and I can feel spring coming!

I'm thinking about making a spinach and feta quiche today so the girls and I can use the eggshells as little seed starter cups. I have been wanting some herbs for the kitchen counter, and starting the seeds now won't be a problem if they never live outdoors. And I can transfer them to slightly larger pots when needed.

I have started small, by simply having candles lit around my desk today as I work and type. Amazing though how one small change can bring so much happiness.
