Explain this to me...

AAP on circ:

http://www.aap.org/publiced/BR_Circumcision.htm

Everything for circ is listed as medical studies, social and cultural reasons.

Everything against is listed as beliefs and fears.

Makes it sound like we're crazy believers (i.e. I believe in santa), but people who circumcise are following the studies and reasons. Doesn't sit well with me. Anyone else?

I completely agree with you. I felt the same way when I read that.

Wow... words fail me. What thinly veiled bias!

That is truly a first class example of intellectual dishonesty.

Yep, that's horrendously biased.

LOL!

Belief that the foreskin is needed?

so yeah, I guess the male is born with a birth defect!

GIVE ME A BREAK

what really makes me mad is that they take the time to actually explain each of the beliefs... So I guess they do know the real issue but they try to mask it with words like fear or belief...

I couldn't have said it better.

I'm gonna say we have "cultural reasons" for not carving our children's genitals? If you say it like that it is unacceptable in our culture.

I agree - and if you haven't already done so PLEASE send the AAP a letter expressing your concerns - they are in the process of writing an updated statement on circumcision. You can find names and addresses here:

under the AAP/CDC project
