dentist asked if i was nursing my toddler

so i was just at the dentist for a little infected wisdom tooth problem. not so fun.

but what was cool--he wanted to write me an Rx for an antibiotic. (i had planned not to bring up nursing unless he prescribed something i wasn't SURE was okay.)

he had already asked how old DD was now and i said 20 months.

he just said, "are you nursing your child?"

and i said yes.

and he said, "amoxicillin should be just fine for nursing, but if you have any questions, ask your pediatrician."

he didn't say--"are you STILL nursing?" and i didn't even bring it up. he just asked me if i was nursing her like nursing a toddler is totally to be expected.

That's great! It's nice to have someone approach it as a normal thing, or at least deal with it in a professional way. I hate when you as the patient have to volunteer the information and then get a misinformed opinion about it when all you want to know is if it's okay to nurse while taking the med.

where are you from? I want that dentist! The last time I took my DD who has been having tooth problems since she was very young to a dentist he was horrible about everything especially night nursing!!!

Wow that is really impressive! When I first read the thread I thought it was your daughters dentist. The fact that it was YOUR dentist and he thought to ask about breastfeeding is awesome!

That is wonderful! I am so used to dentists and hygienists making unsubstantiated statements about drinking fluoridated water and discontinuing night nursing. Hang onto that one!!
