Aviendha Jane has arrived in style - Natural Hospital Birth

We only have two pictures right now, because we left our camera at home in the rush to get to the hospital, so you'll have to wait for more when we get the ones from our mom's cameras:

Didn't have to be induced, thank goodness. Sunday evening, started somewhat mild contractions at about 7:45. Started getting intense at about 8:30. About 20 minutes later, they were coming so fast, I was having issues concentrating on anything else but breathing. By 10:30, DH called my dad to come get us and have my mom drive our car because I couldn't handle any of these contractions without him and I needed his full concentration. They were coming about 3-4 minutes apart and were about 2-3 minutes long. I had two just getting from the bathroom to the car.

We get to the hospital and they check me out and I'm 5cm. We get checked in, IV put in for fluids and get the jacuzzi tub run. I get in and am in there for MAYBE 15 minutes before I tell Ryan to run and tell the nurse that I am having the urge to push really badly. Ryan leaves the room and tells the nurses at the station that I was feeling the urge to push. They all look at him and go "oh. *pause*". Our fantastic nurse comes to check, I'm at 8cm. She calls for the doc and after she gets back, I asked for some pain meds to take the edge off. They were so fast and so intense that it was getting to the point where I couldn't catch my breath between them.

She leaves to go order the Stadal and comes back, and checks me. I'm at 9.5, so no drugs....but thats okay, because we didn't have too much longer. The doc on call gets there (my doc was still on vacation), moves the light down, gets my legs up and tells me to start pushing. My bag still had not broken, so he popped that. Had to have an episiotomy because she was coming so freakin fast that her head was getting stuck and her heartbeat was dropping to a scary point. They had to get her out of there. Turns out her cord was wrapped twice around her neck. Only had about 14 minutes of pushing total. It's a good thing the doc had been on the floor or he would have missed it. She wasn't in the birth canal long enough to get scrunchy or a cone head or anything! Came out pretty much with her peaches and cream complexion you see above.

We are now home, left early this afternoon after watching America's first Black President be sworn in with our little MLK, Jr. baby.

I'm doing great. Next to no pain, even with the episiotomy. Breastfeeding is going well, she is a crazy strong nurser. They don't ever really tell you how much it hurts when they get going to start with!!

She is less than 48 hours old and has so much personality its amazing. She hates cold hands and bright lights in her face. She HAS to have her hands up by her face and likes to turn her face to the right more than the left. She makes the cutest little noises when she dreams. And we are so in love!!!

oh congratulations! That is a great birth story! So cute too.

totally not telling you what to do- but if you go to the chiro get her checked too- for the turning right thing. Freaky to see a newborn adjusted- but makes a huge difference!

: great story!

mine had a strong preference to turning her head to one side and I intend to go to a chiro but for the moment things seem to have gotten significantly better with me sleeping on the side she didn't like to turn to. still going to get her checked out though

Congratulations! I second getting the baby looked at by a chiro. Amalia had her adjustment yesterday after DH and I got our work done. She was in the birth canal for less than 10 minutes, ans yeah pretty tweaked. He hips and neck were going in opposite directions, poor thing!

Yay what an amazing birth story!! Welcome Aviendha and enjoy your babymoon.

Congratulations!

I also recommend the chiro adjustment, my ds, baby #6, only would turn to the left, not only did it make nursing difficult on one side but we found out at 3 weeks he had torticollis. Torticollis can be the cause of a difficult birth, i.e. head/shoulders getting stuck.

Best wishes and have a wonderful babymoon.
