We used Earth Mama Angel Baby for #1 but from 8 months on she moved way too much to "be careful around the eyes". She developed a fear of head-washing that has lasted to the present day. I want something equally natural and yummy for #2, but without the eye-burning. Suggestions?

I am TOTALLY subbing to this one. I have all but given up - this is one thing I go mainstream on... this AND bubble bath... (even finding tear free bubble bath isn't very easy - check the labels!!!). I know tear-free is all sorts of icky but my daughter also had massive issues with gettng her hair washed and getting soap in her eyes - I mean bath time was THE most stressful time of day for us... Now it is a joy again.
If anyone has ideas for something more natural, I'd love to know -- otherwise for the next year or so (till she gets the hang of it better), I'm just biting the bullet and going mainstream on this one.

Water. My kid is nearing three and has only had shampoo touch her hair twice (I think). You'd never know it - her hair is perfectly shiney and soft.
Angela, I don't know how you got the smell of ground beef or mutton out! Mine has her hair stay shiny, for sure. Oh, it gets SHINY. So did spots on my shirt where she would lay her head between oh, eight and 18 months, when she was self-feeding. Soft... well... that was a different story. And believe me, I tried for weeks at a time to avoid using shampoo.

we use both california baby (tear free) and Dr. Bronner's baby mild (definitely not tear-free) With both, I am just careful not to get it near their eyes. And really, only my oldest washes her hair regularly. My boys go a long time w/o shampoo because water does the job fine unless they are really dirty, and they have short hair.
my understanding is that most baby shampoo's (organic or not) need some kind of chemical additive in order to be tear-free. CB is about as natural as you can get and still have this aspect.

Oh, no, don't worry- she was greasy. That is a result of self-feeding.
We do not shampoo often (1 x / mo) generally, but there was definitely a period when we used it more often to get dinner out of the hair. I guess it would not have been a big deal but it smelled.
I do not like Dr. Bronner's soaps myself but I will look at California Baby stuff. We had their sunscreen and it worked well.
