Principals Office on TRU TV...

This show had a clip featured on The Soup. I thought it was funny so I checked out a couple of episodes. I am disgusted by what I saw on one of the episodes. They featured Principal Steve Halter from Booneville, AR High School. A girl had gotten in trouble and was sent to his office. I can't remember what she had done but it earned her a full day of Saturday school. She did have the option though of going to a full day of Saturday school or TAKING 3 HITS FROM THE PADDLE in exhange for half of that Saturday. She decided to take the 3 hits and it showed her going into his office with him and you could hear the 3 hits. Then she signed a paper and left his office. Disgusting!!!

Was this the clip you'd seen on The Soup? I actually cried when I saw Joel talking about it; it struck me as so hilarous :

OMG the kid...the HIGH SCHOOL KID....drew with marker on his face....a beard....a mustache...a purple unibrow...

AND A BACKWARDS L ON HIS FOREHEAD.

Ok. Done watching the clip. The spanking thing JIMHO is wrong, it wasn't on the clip I saw, but I think it's highly inappropriate with many 'ick factors'.

I wonder if the parents have to ok their kid being taped?

I haven't seen that show, but I have watched it. I think the new season starts tonight.
I didn't even know they still had paddles in school, let alone hs. But I think all the parents are aware that paddling can and is used as a form of discipline. My question is - are the parents notified before the "discipline" is given?
Do I think it's wrong - ABSOLUTELY. I am just shocked our country still has schools like that. I guess they justify it by giving the kids a choice :

The one I saw on The Soup was a principal talking to 2 boys about a dance where people were dancing too close. The boys were then going through all kinds of funny scenarious like "what if I was just bending over to tie my shoe and he was standing behind me and he was stretching. Is that too close?" It was really funny.

I was completely shocked that he had a paddle. All I could think of was what is his motivation for wanting to do this. A small teenage girl goes into the office of a middle aged man to get her behind hit. WTH?

I can't believe that we still allow corporal punishment...I truly did not realize it was still allowed here in the US.

I think this show is shameful, and so is nearly *every* principal that is featured. It's all about power and control. Sickening. I saw one episode in which several kids were actually paddled, including a teenage girl. How awful! The media goes into an uproar when student-teacher relations go too far or when older men hit on younger women..but yet it's alright for a dirty old high school principal to wallop a teenage girl on the rear end with a paddle. We live a in a very backward society. On another show, a student was punished for speaking his native language in school, because the administrators couldn't understand what he was saying. You never know he could be *planning something* or insulting a teacher or other student. It looked to me like racial discrimination, because the kid was Arab I believe. They even called in his father, who SUPPORTED the principal. I wanted to vomit.

I'm pretty sure that the parents have to sign a permission slip, and can prohibit the school from administering corporal punishment at any time, even if the student requests it. I'm not sure, but I think that's how it is. It's sad how many states still allow corporal punishment in schools; 22 states, mostly
southern, except for Idaho and Colorado...I was shocked to see them in there! Wow. Here's a link http://school.familyeducation.com/cl...rce/38377.html

Wow, my state is one where it's legal. I truly thought it was illegal here.

I used to work in the schools and I don't know any principal who still does that, but most principals that I worked under were women.

Thanks for the link. Fortunately in my state it is illegal.

I did watch about 15 min of the show last night before I fell asleep with the kid that they said needed a haircut. I honestly could not see the big deal. Everytime I see this show, I wonder why a parent would allow their child to be broadcast on tv sitting in the principal's office? : Then again some of the stuff seems so trivial (haircut).
