Watch out for all those vaccines.............

"i don't trust all of them these days." My mom told me this when I was pg w/ my younger dd. It really surprised me b/c she is 98% mainstream/2% "crispy". I know, somewhat of an oxymoron.

This from the same woman who told me that I should pop dd's hand when she pulls her barrettes out of her hair? Um, we just don't use barrettes.

I just don't get it.

Well... I don't think that the choice whether or not to vaccinate is equated with discipline choices. A parent who doesn't vaccinate could still use physical punishment, and one who does vaccinate (us, for example, albeit slowly & selectively), would never lay a hand on their children in anger.

There's a lot of information out there in the public eye now about the potential dangers of vaccines & possible links between autism (for example), and vaccines... so its not surprizing to me that anyone would be wary.

I think its a good thing - it means more people will go into the vaccination decision with education! I wish more people would go into parenting in general (discipline, to use your example) with more education.

Shouldn't this be on the vaccine board?

i agree with your mom. I just don't trust them and they aren't nessary.

Now we all can make the WOOOOOSHH!! sound as we get moved over the the vax board!

What does a vaccine have to do with discipline.? We do selective delayed vaccine our selfs and don't spank punish ect but they are unrelated. The first parent I knew IRL that did not vaccinate and was a big AP supporteer was also a Trip STCH fan and would spank for "heart issues" quite often. It didn't relate to there vaccination stand any.

Hi everyone. You are now in the vaccine forum.

Well we don't vaccinate at all and we don't use any type of punishments, for sure not spanking. The most we do is say: "I don't like ....(whatever) he is doing". When he was little, those words brought tears to his eyes. No matter how gentle we said them.

Now since he is older, he sometimes uses it against us. Well, he is growing up. But still vax free.

What does one thing have to do with the other.

Absolutely NOTHING. But so what....:

Kudos to your mom for even considering that there might be something wrong with a 'health' care system that wants to inject more and more crap into our kids' bodies.

I don't think the OP was trying to find a correlation between vaccination and discipline. I think she was just trying to show how "old fashioned" or "not crunchy" her mom was. By telling us her moms choice of discipline, she was expressing her mothers conservative (in other words not so "question authority" like the rest of us...) views.

Thank you! A lot of people view not vaccinating as "crunchy" while spanking seems more "mainstream." It just surprised me that she could advocate "crunchiness" and "mainstreamness (i know it's not a word) at the same time, kwim? Hope that makes sense.

Totally makes sense...
It just goes to show how everyone is starting to say "wait a minute...this doesn't seem right..."

I think more often times than not people are a little bit of both and not wholly mainstream or crunchy. I know lots of people who are very mainstream about some things and crunchy about others. My sil advocates cio but not spanking. I don't get it. I knew a mw who was pro circ but very crunchy in other respects like no vaxing. I kinda makes me scratch my head cause everything seems so connected to *me*. I mean if you are against vaxing cause of the bad stuff in them how is circing ok? Doesn't make sense to me.

As with most things....it is not all or nothing when it comes to crunchiness. I myself am fairly crunchy about lots of things, but might be considered more mainstream when it comes to others. I think with some things it's about what works for the person (assuming they have fully educvated themselves about the issue at hand!!)

Kudos to your mom for recognizing all that poison isn't good! The discipline thing is more cultural, so I could see the generation gap.
