Has anyone else had this experience, or any gastro-side effects from Maca?
Thanks.

Yes, the first day I took Maca powder, I took 2 Tablespoons and a half hour later my intestines were kind of burning and then I urgently needed to do a poo! So now I take one tsp and don't feel anything at all.

Yay! Do you feel like one thing attributed to it, an overall effect, or just random?

I love the libido benefits too! I still get plenty at 2500 mg....or approx. 1 tsp.

Spirulina doesn't upset me, but it did DH when he mixed it with milk- maybe lactose overload. Are you doing shakes as well?

All right, I am feeling cheated about this libido thing! Maybe I need to try the powder, because I'm not noticing any difference with the capsules, and I upped my dosage to 3150 mg!

Or it could be that my libido is fried by TTCing, pregnancy, BFing, and TTCing again.

We DTD last night, and this morning DH was feeling frisky again. I was stalling, and he said, "Oh come on...it's for the kids!" : haha So I gave in, but it sure would be nice to get a little kick from the maca at times like that!

On the other hand, the more recent side effects kind of wipe out the increased libido. Hot monkey love and intense stomach cramping do not mix.

I also had a really bad reaction to spirulina (similar reaction), which is high in B vitamins. I'd love to hear from anyone who has had a bad maca reaction and has been able to get past it. I'm decreasing the dosage but then I think the benefits are wiped out.
Have you tried capsules? Those worked ok for me. Or, spreading out the dosage throughout the day. Or the extract - I think I am trying the extract next.

I couldn't even think about TTC before DD was 3...I think it was nature's way of keeping me sane! :

Wishing the best for you!!!

yeah Im not feeling the Libido thing either. I am taking the liquid and havent noticed a increase in Libido or energy. BUT I O'd so thats a good enough reason for me to keep taking it.

Okay. I think I need to join here. I started maca a few weeks ago after reading about it. I immediately got an awful headache which went away afer I stopped the maca. However, I didn't take anymore and the headache came back a couple of days later so I'm thinking maybe it was coincidental.

I am currently headache-free and think I'll start the maca again to see what happens.

We've been ttc'ing again for two years. I o very infrequently and could certainly use some help in the libido department!

Does there seem to be the theory that the powder is more effective than the capsule or no? I have 525 mg capules. I was taking 3 but I guess I should take 5 or so.

I dont know about the powder being more affective then the capsule as i take liquid. I cant imagine the powder being more affective since isnt the capsules just the powder in a pill form?

Name: Ann!
What kind of Maca you are taking: Capsule form!
How much Maca you take: 900mg per pill - 3 pills a day!
How has it changed your cycle so far? Do not know yet - just started! This will be our 8th month TTC! So far I have tried EPO - just gave me lots of ewcm. Then B vits (which I am still on) - causes me to ovulate earlier which in turn gives me a longer LP! Will be interesting to see what maca does!

DH is taking it too!

I made my DH take it too. First it was for fertility reasons, but when I thought about it increasing his sex-drive, I stopped offering it to him! I'm only human!

I am in!!! I got my bag of Maca (from VeryErin) and now that I am on CD1 I will start about 2500 mg a day. I think I will try to just take it like a shot with some water. So did we figure out if that is a teaspoon or tablespoon?

Gotta be a teaspoon. There's just no way the contents of 5 (500mg) capsules would fill up a tablespoon. You could always increase it if you don't notice anything different, but honestly I'm scared to go up by much as PP's have described some ugly GI side effects from bigger does!

My powder comes Mon or Tues, then you'll have to tell me the best way to take it!

OK- I figured it out! : 1 tsp powder = 1000mg

No- I found it online. It makes sense-- so 2.5 tsp = one serving. It says it on my package too.
