2 books on setting up and organizing a home to make it easier to tidy/clean

I just wanted to briefly review 2 books I've found very useful in terms of how to set up and organize a home to make it easier to clean and organize - especially when you're dealing with unruly spouses and children . They both focus on having realistic expectations of how people really behave in homes. I got both of these out of my local library.

Make Your House Do the Housework

This book is mostly focused on reducing cleaning effort and has a lot of good ideas that one can apply even if one is not building/buying a new home. You won't want to follow all of the advice, but it will make you think twice about home and furniture designs that are not cleaning-friendly.

Organizing Solutions for People With Attention Deficit Disorder: Tips and Tools to Help You Take Charge of Your Life and Get Organized

I would recommend this book to anyone who has trouble keeping up with the mess that the rest of the family makes. Although the book is aimed at issues specific to ADD, I found a lot of the advice applicable to my non-ADD dh who lacks many of the habits of tidying and cleaning up after himself. The book gives so many sensible organization solutions that prevent messes and make it easier for people to put things away. The author encourages having realistic expectations of people in terms of what systems they are likely to adhere to.

For example, I've decided that even though we have a convenient coat closet in our entrance, my dh and children are never going to consistently use hangers. If I don't want a mess of coats on the floor every day, I am going to have to convert the closet to hook storage for coats and take the doors off, even though that's a less efficient use of the space and makes for a bit more visual clutter (I don't have room to add hooks in the entrance).

Again, not all of the advice will apply, but the general attitude of changing the environment to help people be more successful in maintaining the home makes so much sense.

It looks like a lot of the stuff that I already do. Which means the stuff I don't do is probably really helpful--Thank you!!

For overall strategies I like The Organizing Sourcebook and I think it would fit well with the two you recommended.
