Something to wear my 15 month old son on my hip

OK, so this up and down and up and down business with my kid is driving me crazy and I can't get anything done! So, I need a carrier that I can carry him around on my hip and easily get him in and out, constantly. We have an Ergo, that I love, but I'm not very comfortable in the side carry position with it. Any other suggestions?
He's not a big kid, only about 20 lbs.

I'd suggest a ring sling. Once you get the hang of it, it's easy to pop your LO in and out, and I like the adjustability, as opposed to a pouch, so you can switch between caregivers. You'll need to find one with a shoulder style that suits you, b/c it can make a huge different. I really like my un-padded Storchenwiege RS, but different ppl have different preferences.

EllaRoo makes a hip carrier that looks nice. I had an EllaRoo Mei Tai once that was very nice, I think the hip carry one looks nice too but I dont like and cant use anything that distributes weight to one side... ring slings always hurt my shoulder with the ring. I liked pouches but only in the newborn age. I hope you can find the perfect carrier!

I recommend a Scootababy. It's more supportive than a ring sling, as it transfers baby's weight to your hips rather than resting it all on your shoulder. It's also very fast on and off.

I don't recommend the EllaRoo mei hip (even though I like EllaRoo as a company a lot). I found it very hard to adjust, and the weight rests on your waist rather than your hips, which isn't very ergonomic at all.

the mei hip and scootababy style hip carriers are much easier to deal with for lo with frequent up and down requests.
the mei hip can use more structure in the waist.
it's not supportive enough for babies over 15 lbs, imo.
the scootababy is a bit of a splurge, in terms of price. But you can sell it once you're done with this phase. i think you can recover bulk of the retail value. at least over 50%. likely even more.

A Hotslings pouch is a great choice, IMHO. DD and I have perfected the up and down routine.... When she is in such a mood (usually during the mornings and evenings), I simply put the pouch on and away we go. Plus, these pouches are really well priced, come in a variety of cute patterns and are very user friendly. When out and about, DD rides on the back of my hip koala-bear style.

It's not really a carrier, but an extra support, and up to a certain weight (varies depending on what your body can handle) works great for walks and perfect for in & out of the car, around the house, etc.
http://www.hippychick.com/ I bought mine second-hand and used it relatively comfortably to 40 lbs and with me 4 months pregnant.

I like a plain old pouch sling, like Hotslings, or my rebozo I bought in Mexico - comfy and easy for a 23 mo. old who also is up and down a lot! Plus, the rebozo I leave tied most of the time, just tighten or loosen the knot if I need to adjsut the length.

Ring sling for sure.

I agree--DD is also 15 months old and about 20 pounds, and the hotsling hip carry is still my favorite carry/carrier for her.

I don't find my Hotsling to be very poppable for hip carries; it seems like every time I put him in I have to adjust a lot to get comfortable and when I take him out, he doesn't slide easily out of the fabric so it gets all twisted before the next use.

The Scootababy looks cool but not very poppable either.

I'm thinking a ring sling might be the way to go, since you can easily loosen and tighten it, increasing the poppability.

I would suggest a ring sling all the way. Not very expensive, very poppable - especially with practice.

Thanks for all the input, ladies. So, now the question is, which ring sling is the comfy-est?

I have a Taylormade ring sling that is super comfy and great for the up and down phase!
