knitting notion storage

looking for ways to store all my knitting notions. anyone have any practical, but creative ideas. i keep all my yarn in a giant basket, but need a way to keep my needles (and all that little stuff) in one place. right now they're in various places all over the house and i have to go searching everytime i need a certain size needle, a stitch marker, a cable needle, etc.

oh, nothing i have to make please. i've seen those home sewn knitting needle rolls (which are quite cute), but i know i'll never get around to making one.

I keep most of mine in cutsy zippered cosmetic bags. works well for me!

For my DPN, I made a knit (with felting and cabling) needle storage roll. It really didn't take a ton of time to make. And, now I love it. I just use a plastic zip-top bag for the small things and everything goes into a big bucket with a lid. I rubberbanded my needles to their match, but they're just loose in the bucket. The hardest thing for me is remembering to put everything back. I can even keep books and kits in the bucket.

I use the tin my Fossil watch came in. It's the perfect size and closes securely so I can toss it in my knitting bag. I keep stitch markers, a tape measure, pins, tapestry needle, needle sizer, stitch counter, yarn cutter and crochet hook in it (I cut a plastic one to fit). I used to have a small calculator velcro-ed to the lid, but it broke. It was very handy while it lasted!

I bought one of the sewn rolls from someone else. They are all over Etsy!

I saw this item on air a few days ago and they had it stuffed with knitting needles and supplies. As soon as I read your post I thought of this, Im getting one for all my jewelry making tools plus it can store all my little tins with beads in the middle.

My LYS had a plastic tube for knitting needles that had a compartment at the bottom for notions. My darning needles, 2 spools of thread, several stitch markers and tiny scissors fit in it. It's this one.

I keep my straights in a wine carafe (along with a bunch of plastic flowers, but that's entirely optional) all of my circs in my harmony case and everything else in my stitch marker box. Oh, and my cable pins live in their cardboard case tucked into the side of my yarn basket.
