i am "window shopping" for a toddler carrier for my 8 month old and i've heard a lot of good things about the ergo. but when i looked at it, it doesnt seem to be able to face babe outward-which is our sons favorite way-at least a couple of months ago. anyone who uses ergo have info? thanks!

also-mei tai or lilli something any good?

I got the Ergo because it seemed like such a good idea, but I can't put it on by myself. See if you can borrow one before investing. *sigh*

My husband liek the Ergo - it's the only carrier he can use without my help! But it definitely CANNOT accommodate a forward facing carry. If you want a soft structured carrier, I'd go with the Catbird Baby Pikkolo. You can cinch in the base to get a good position for forward facing, and it comes in prettier colours than the Ergo

You *can* face outward, but I'd tie a string around the front and cinch it in a little (basically making the "seat" thinner), but not so much that it is putting all the babe's weight on the crotch.

I really don't think the Ergo is a good carrier for doing forward facing out, even with the base cinched. My recommendation would be for the Pikkolo as well. If you add on the babywearing support belt, it acts like the Ergo's hip belt in terms of ergonomic weight transfer to your lower body, and you can still do a FFO position with the support belt on.
