We are doing an ED for ds's eczema and avoiding casein. So does beef have it? I have not been able to find the answer so far on the web. Thanks!

No. Some people are sensitive to all beef products, can't have cow milk or meat, but it's not casein (not sure what it is though).

Casein is a milk protein, not a "cow" protein. It's also present in other mammal milks, such as goat and water buffalo, in varying amounts.

No beef does not have casein. Casein is the protein in dairy products (anything made from the milk, not the meat). You do need to be careful when purchasing deli beef (ANY deli meat) because they frequently have casein and/or gluten but regular beef is just regular beef.

Ah yes, the notorious sodium caseinates and strange lactics and lactates in deli meats. How could I have forgot about them?

Kosher beef products are free of casein and any other dairy derivatives- but may still contain gluten. Kosher laws forbid mixing of meat and milk products- so any product certified kosher, unless it says "D" or "dairy" next to the kosher certification, is dairy free.

From the Web: "A white, tasteless, odorless mixture of related phosphoproteins precipitated from milk by rennin. Casein is very nutritious, as it contains all of the essential amino acids as well as all of the common nonessential ones. It is the basis of cheese : and is used to make plastics, adhesives, paints, and foods."
