Okay so I bought this when it first came out and finally got a chance to watch it. I'v ehard bad reviews about it but I actually like it. I am no Jihnny Depp fan wither but I found his performance in thsi movie quite refreshing and funny. What are your views?

I actually enjoyed this movie also. I haven't even liked anything else he's been in - but he cracked me up in this movie! Gotta love a man who'll make you laugh.

And just for the pretty boy factor, Orlando Bloom whoo-whee!

mmmmmmmmmmmmm Orlando Bloom!

Mmmmm...I know he's a little grungy as a pirate, but Mmmmmm...Johnny Depp! That is one fine man!

Renee I totally agree. I can see all his appeal thru that pirate grunge look. He was also funny in this movie which was a plus. I liked Orlando Bloom better as an Elf then a pirate wanna-be

Well, I just love Johnny Depp. Besides being the world's handsomist (sp?) man, he is creative, artistic, rebellious and funky. He fights the heart throb image, and I respect that.

I also loved

Edward Scissorhands
What's Eating Gilbert Grape
Benny and Joon
Ed Wood
Sleepy Hollow
Fear and Loathing in Las Vagas

Johnny and Orlando are fine looking specimens in this movie.

Oh, and Jeca, you're a big turkey.... I'll tell ya why later.

:LOL

Well now you get to trade it in for something you want!!

yummy...you give me Johnny Depp, I'll give you two hours of my time! But I thought the movie went on just a tad too long. Loved him though! Very very funny guy.

Love it!!! Three sexy men in the caribbean, gotta love it lol! I really like that there's none of that gooey romance stuff. I hate that. It completely ruins the movie. Especially when you want to watch something with your kids.
Ever notice how graphic films are getting these days? Drives me nuts! Grrr. I watched Five Easy Pieces the other day. Threre was literally 'rolling-in-the-hay' type scenes. Jack Nicholson would fall on top of what's her name and they would touch lips and roll lol! Just roll around the bed, clothes and all lol!
Not like 'Helen of Troy'. It had a scene that was basically a pornographic rape scene. Ick.

Ok, so I rented Benny and Joon basically because of the "recommendations" from this site. Haven't had a chance to see it yet...

MamaInTheBoonies, what Helen of Troy movie are you referring to? Was it a mini series on tv?

Call me bad, but I've never even heard of Benny or Joon for that matter.

I prefer Orlando Bloom as a blonde Fairy. AndI do think the GRungy pirate thing made Johnny Depp very easy on the eyes in this movie. Althouh I thought he was TOOO cute back during his 21Jumpstreet days.

I liked the movie (somewhat) but I had a real problem with the Commodore's character. He wasn't remotely human but must have been just a vehicle to move the story along.

Warning :: Spoiler Ahead! Highlight to read message!
At the end: he's about to hang Johnny Depp but Orlando Bloom saves Johnny. They get caught and now the Commodore is going to have them both killed. But wait, his girlfriend jumps in the way and dumps him. What guy in his right mind would then be all like, "hey dude, you make good swords"". I have never known a guy to get dumped like that and then have such an unrealistic change of heart to not only want to spare the guy his girl left him for but also release the pirate he was intent on killing (and give him a one day head start so that he can presumably kill him in the sequel).

Okay, enough of a rant, but that Commodore dude's character wasn't based on anything remotely human.

Yeah, ITA with Candide. That part of the ending was kind of a let down. BUT overall, I found it to be a funny and entertaining movie. No offensive language, no nudity etc. I'm so tired of watching movies where every second word is the 'F' word.

You gotta love the last line Johnny Depp says at the end tho

"Yo ho" indeed :LOL

Dh & I just saw it the night before last. We both thought it was really funny. I was very pleasantly surprised. And one can never get enough Orlando!

I *think* THE COMMEDORE WAS TRYING TO BE NOBLE. You know turn the other cheek since he possibly loved her and wanted to put her feelings forst maybe.

Sorry about the caps, too lazy to correct it.

Just saw it last night and REALLY liked it. The big moonlight battle was WAAYYY tooo long, but other than that... what a fun, funny movie! I was cracking up at Johnny Depp constantly. I loved that I read in an interview that he essentially played Ron Woods of the Rolling Stones for this part. Did you notice at the very end, he suddenly is standing straighter, his eye is clear, his gaze direct and he isn't slurring. All he needed was his ship back.

The Commodore was one dimensional... but I felt like he was doing that 'veddy, veddy British, veddy veddy noble' thing of essentially saying well, I want her to be happy and I will look pretty petty taking action against the man she clearly loves. The sword line was a "take good care of my baby" kind of sentiment, right?
