Herbal Afterbirth Bath, (how) do you use/recommend it? (In His Hands question)

I'm in the process of ordering a birth kit from In His Hands was wondering if I should get this or not. My midwife said I don't have to since she feels it the herbs are too much work for people. Is this something I need to boil in the water and use it for Sitz bath or some other way?
Also in my order sheet, there is a Herbal Cord care, by Wishgarden .25 oz. However, I'm ordering individual items and at their website, this is the only thing similar to Cord care item I found. New Mother's Healing Salve, by Wishgarden, contains Calendula, Comfrey & Vitamin E, 1 oz., Is this the same thing?? They have different price (.50 difference) and different oz. so I'm not sure...
Thank you for your help.

I have used the herbal baths many times from In his hands, at births. You boil of pot of water and then just drop the bag in. Let it boil for 30 minutes or so. Then after it has cooled you can pour the water into the bath or you can pour the water into your peri bottle and use it to wash off after you go to the bathroom. The herbs are great for healing your perineum and also are good for the baby. As far as the cord care, we advise not putting anything on the cord. After the clamp comes off then if the cord looks a little wet in areas you can use golden seal powder.

I used In His Hands (they are crazy fast with their delivery) and I loved the herbal bath. I just boiled it and poured it straight into the bathtub, along with plenty of hot water. Not really hard at all.
It was enough for two, so the midwives got one round of it ready for me while I was in labor, then I had a nice hot soak ready for me after I gave birth. I used the other half of it the next day. I kind of wished I had ordered more.
Not sure about the cord care. My midwife didn't recommend using anything as long as the cord didn't get infected.

First I have heard of it...and I am intrigued. I wonder what herbs are in the mix? Could I make it myself?

Sure. There are lots of recipes floating around online. I think they usually have comfrey as the main herb.
Though the one at In His Hands is really pretty cheap, and it makes a ton.

We just popped a few teaspoons of the herbs in the bath & soaked in them a few hours after our second was born. I took daily baths with him for about a week in the herbs. We only purchased one package...that stuff rocks.

My MW gave me some herbs in my birth kit and I'm pretty sure they were the same herbs you mamas are talking about. I made up a bunch a few days before labor and kept it in the refrigerator. I used half in my peri bottle and half in an herbal bath a few hours after DS2 was born. I wish I had ordered extra too, I'll def get two batches this time around!
