I want to grab a book off amazon that covers homeschooling. I'm interested in homeschooling and would like a good read. Can you give me the title and author of any books you recommend???

This book feels good in your hands. The paper is heavyweight, and the illustrations flow perfectly.
A Good Homeschool Read

I just read "The Homeschooling Option" by Lisa Rivero and would recommend it. It has a good variety of info. that would appeal to someone considering hs'ing as well as someone who's been hs'ing for a while. It's also the first book I've read that I would give to a family member wanting to know more about hs'ing because it gives info without getting into public-school bashing and without painting a perfectly rosy picture of hs'ing. I'm all for hs'ing, but it's not right for every family and not every ps is bad and I like that the book made it clear what the trials and the joys of hs'ing were. I think it'd be a very good choice for reading yourself as well as giving to family/friends who are worried about hs'ing, because the book makes hs'ing look good without having to make public school look bad to do it kwim. Homeschooling is awesome enough on it's own!!
THANKS!!!
I'll be sure to grab that one too. I ended up with three books which should arrive on my doorstep in a few days:
"Homeschooling: The Early Years: Your Complete Guide to Successfully Homeschooling the 3- to 8- Year-Old Child"
Linda Dobson; Paperback; $12.21
1 "Homeschool Co-ops: How to Start Them, Run Them and Not Burn Out"
Carol Topp; Paperback; $10.00
1 "The Well-Adjusted Child: The Social Benefits of Homeschooling"
Rachel Gathercole; Paperback; $11.66
We shall see...
I have sooooooooo many questions....and know some of the answers will not be found in a book but rather with mother-to-mother support (sound familar???), maybe some observations and of course, FAITH!

The Unschooling Handbook by Mary Griffin has some helpful information about using every day experiences as learning tools.
Most of John Holt's books will give you confidence in yourself as being able to help your children learn and tap into their own potential.

I also like "Homeschooling: Take a Deep Breath, You Can Do This!" by Terri Lynn Bittner. It gives an overview of hs'ing, but it is also packed with tonnes of great ideas on incorporating learning into fun activities throughout the day.

Also a fan. This was the one that finally made me see that yes, I could do this.

Everything by Mary Griffith, Linda Dobson, John Holt, and David Albert - as well as Learning at Home, by Marty Layne, and See, I Told Me So!, by "18 homeschool veterans." Those would keep you busy for a long time. You can find brief descriptions with links to the Amazon pages of all those and more on this page: HomeSchool Assn. of California.
