We left a practice for similar reasons. It wasn't solely b/c of their views, but b/c they tried to bully me and intimidate me. In our instance it was the nurse telling me that I shouldn't be breastfeeding b/c my milk was "inadequate" since I am vegan. She also advised me that I would be scarring my child for life emotionally if I didn't circ when we didn't know if dd#2 was a girl and I was discussing it with them prior to her birth. I was just tired of being condescended to and bullied.

I did let the office know why we were leaving. If you can do so calmly, they may listen. If you get too emotional about it, they probably won't.

You did the right thing. The only thing that I wish you would have done as well is explaining them that ballooning is a NORMAL part of separation and is NOT dangerous by any means.

You can print some info about ballooning and no-retracting from DOC website and pass it to the doctor together with the contact info of DOC if she has any further questions.

We left a practice because of this issue. Even after bringing in literature about it, the doc told me we can't believe all of it because I got it off the internet from anti-circ web sites. I did however bring in the AAP's info on the subject and he even argued with that stating that it was the only one he would believe but that it doesn't say anything against "gently" retracting. He also wrote, "do not touch penis" on the chart. That was the last time we went there. When our new doc got the files sent over he also told me that they are taught to check retraction in med school but when I told him NO, at least he was respectful of my wishes....he is also laid back about vaccination so I'm glad we left the other practice.
