Trinity stitch question

The directions I have say:

R1 (RS): P
R2: *K1, P1, K1 into the next stitch, P3tog; rep. from *
R3: P
R4: *P3tog, K1, P1, K1 into the next stitch; rep. from *

My question is the "K1 into the next stitch" part, Where exactly am I K? I thought it was a given that you did whatever (K,P, slip) "into the next stitch" unless it told you otherwise. Color me confused!

you are working the knit 1, purl 1 and knit 1 all in the next stitch (so, you're increasing to three stitches from that original one stitch)
