I wish I'd seen everything, but I've only seen a few of the movies so far. I was a little surprised by Benjamin Button. While the special effects were cool, I thought it was just . . . OK. I watched the noms being read live this morning, and I had to giggle when Robert Downey Jr.'s name was read - the whole audience chuckled. DH and I about wet ourselves laughing in that movie.

I was surprised that Revolutionary Road didn't get more nominations, after the Golden Globes.

What are you rooting for?

I honestly never bother paying attention to awards shows and whatnot, but I'd love if "Milk" had some wins. I thought it was really well done. Sean Penn totally impressed me as well.

I have only seen Kung Fu Panda and Wall-E on that list.

I thought Clint Eastwood was pretty awesome in Gran Torino, but I also can't really argue with the nominees they did pick either.

I laughed at the RDJ nom too - he was pretty hilarious in that movie and good that he's included, though probably won't win :P

I've only seen Wall-E and Bolt on the list.

I don't like serious movies . . . we go to the movies all the time, but we don't ever end up seeing any of the Oscar-nominated ones because they all look like they'd bore me to tears.

I think the last time I saw and enjoyed an Oscar winner was when American Beauty came out!

Oh I want to add, DS is seven months and I felt horrible during my pregnancy. I did want to see some of these on the list.

Same here! And Dark Knight. There's so many I'd like to see but we never have the money.

I'm rooting for Benjamin Button as Best Pic, Brad for Best Actor, and Angelina for Best Actress.

The Changeling was awesome!

I finally saw The Reader and Revolutionary Road this weekend. Kate Winslet is my new idol! I'm just so sad she's up against Meryl Streep - when I compare the two performances: Streep's nun vs. Winslet's April in RR, I think Meryl Streep has to win. I thought Winslet was better in The Reader. Maybe it's because I could. not. take. my. eyes. off DiCaprio. WHY has this man not yet won an Oscar? Modelizing playboy or not, he blows me away in everything I see him in.

I still want to see Slumdog Millionaire, and my Frozen River DVD will be here tonight. Sigh, things were much easier when we lived in NYC and our friend lent us all his Oscar voting DVDs.

Oh, I have to share something funny with you. DH went with me to see The Reader. When it was over, he was sniffling and wiping his eyes. He was lamenting, "Oh man, I'm a mess. I've got to man up before I go play poker, or else I'll be sobbing about this movie all night." It definitely didn't fit in with the tough-guy persona he cultivates at his poker games.

Finally finished watching all the major nominees today. I think would vote for Slumdog Millionaire for Best Picture, Gus van Sant for Best Director, Melissa Leo for Best Actress, and Mickey Rourke for Best Actor. But I'm not sure. If I were actually a member of the Academy I'd have to rewatch some of the films.

Has anyone seen any of the shorts? I don't think I've ever seen any of them, ever. Just who gets a chance to see them other than those who received the nominated DVDs? I wish that they would get released nation-wide, perhaps as a quintuple-feature, during the period between the nominations and the awards ceremony.

I haven't seen The Reader but I read it and LOVE it and I am a huge Kate Winslet fan so of course I want her to win. This has better be her year!

The only real thing I am sure of is Heath Ledger winning. He just has to. Even if he hadn't died he deserves to win.

Everyone keeps saying Slumdog is going to win but I remember everyone thinking Brokeback Mountain was going to win and it didn't (which I am still peeved about).

I'm confused here. Winslet was nominated for The Reader not RR.
