cod liver oil for baby - should I or shouldn't I????!!!!!

So, what's the scoop? There is somewhat confusing information out there about CLO. Should I start to give this to my 10 month old baby or not?

My kids have had CLO since babyhood. My ds1 started earlier than the other two (at about 9 months) and the others at about a year. I give my babies half a teaspoon of regular (not high vitamin or fermented) CLO flavoured with orange oil.
I can't tell you if you should or not, but I do.

I posted this quite awhile ago and I did end up giving my DD CLO for a couple of weeks at a time, then a couple weeks break, etc. BUT at our last trip to the dietician (she was preemie and very small so we were going to get "tips" regarding her diet)..... the dietician said it is dangerous to give CLO to babies as they can get Vitamin A poisoning. She recommended plain fish oil if we wanted it for the healthy fats.

Any thoughts? I can't seem to find much info on this!

if i remember correctly from another thread, in order to get vitamin A overload it has to be something like 20,000 mg? clo does not come close to that. i would not be worried.

The only actual toxicity results I've seen have been from really, really high doses, and even then for long-term use. I _do_ think you should consider your vitamin D status (yours and baby's) since they work together. There's only 10% as much D as A in cod liver oil, so we need other sources, and if you consume more A than most people, you need more D as well (so more time in the sun if your climate supports that, or food sources, or a supp, or a combination of the above, which is what we do).

I started DD on CLO when she was 6 months because it was winter and we're in the north. I don't give it very often during the summer instead I encourage her to eat fish.

So you shouldn't give babies high vitamin clo? I just started DD on nordic naturals strawberry clo when that was gone I was going to get blue ice clo for us. I give her 1/2 teaspoon daily she is 13 months. Is it a better idea to give just omega 3 instead?

As far as vit D her and I supp sometimes with carlsons vit D drops. We get sun ALMOST daily. I try for a hour since we are both tan. Should I still supp daily? We have never had levels checked.
