LA Suggestions please

K, I am going to say what we are looking for and hopefully you guys can help.

We are very relaxed. We are not ones to sit at the table everyday and work on something. We pretty much do what we feel like on any given day. We do do Math lessons but the kids love them so we keep at them. If they didn't like Math, we would find another way to teach it. We want something fun. Something we can have fun with. I am not concerned with reading because we can do that on our own. I would like some lessons or games for grammar, spelling and whatever else there is. lol. I want them to know English but I don't believe in pushing it. So basically I want something light hearted and fun.
Any suggestions?

We absolutely love Learning Language Arts through Literature!! It's not the most fun curriculum out there, but it's very quick and to the point and gets the job done so we can move on to the stuff we really want to be doing.

Your oldest is just 5, and at that age we read a lot of good books. We enjoy Five in a Row, which included learning some basic english concepts in a relaxed way. My kids eventually learned parts of speach by playing Mad Libs.

My kids weren't interested in spelling or writing at all at that age. One is an excellant speller now and has picked it up just from reading. The other still doesn't spell well, but seems to care about it now so I'm sure that it will come.

There's no rush for any of this. I think 5 year olds should play with play dough and finger paint.

Oops! My daughter is 6 now and very advanced. She loves workbooks and is constantly wanting to learn. Otherwise, I would just have her playing with playdoh and painting.

she might really enjoy MadLibs.

For that age, reading or telling them wonderful little stories, having lots of lovely picture books around, teaching them fun little rhymes (I mean just in the natural course of doing them with them), and everyday conversation, will work well. There are a number of links on this page about language arts to sites that have book suggestions; there are a number of links on this page about preschool and kindergarten activities to sites that have fun finger rhymes and picture books, free online audio recordings of stories, etc. I love the Children's Picture Books site.
