movies on childbirth?

I was wondering if anyone had good advice for some childbirth dvd's for DF and I to watch together- for various reasons we can't attend childbirth classes and I want both of us (esp. DF but myself as well) to sort of create our own class. I have received several good book recommendations- Birthing from Within, the Thinking Woman's Guide to Childbirth, the Birth Book- but I will happily take more recommendations on books for us to read too, especially ones for him.

Thanks.

My DH really enjoyed The Business of Being Born, which you can rent on netflix. It isn't really a birth class movie, but it is really empowering and informative. Makes you feel good about being pregnant.

Ina May's guide to Childbirth, Ina May Gaskin is a great book too. Great info without being crisis-oriented.

Congrats and good luck!

If you want birth class videos I highly encourage you to borrow them from a birth educator. Perhaps one who is also a doula, if you're hiring a doula, access to her library would likely be included with her services. Those things run from $30-$250 each most of the time and aren't often available for mainstream renting.

Some good ones off the top of my head:
Birth Day
The Miracle of Birth
Gentle Birth Choices
With Both Feet on the Ground

The business of being born is a great one to start with. They have some gorgeous footage of homebirth and birth center labors.
What's the one with the Russian chick in the big aquarium looking tub? Y'all know the one I'm talking about? It's kind of hokey but it has some good stuff.
Also, something as simple as watching homebirth videos on youtube can be really powerful.

I think you mean Birth As We Know It. I have not seen it, but I want to!
