Harper's cord fell off today...

... and my dog ATE it! and it made her sick, of course.
we took a picture and saved DS's! i feel terrible!
oddly, both kids lost their cords at 11 days.

I saved Lilly's, but lost it It was nifty, too, all shaped like the clamp. So was Naomi's until it got a tiny bit wet and then it shriveled. I still have it, but it just looks kinda gross *sigh* I was hoping it would stay cool looking like Lilly's.

I wish Kallie's cord would fall off... it creeps me out, honestly. I can't wait for it to be gone.

it didn't sit too well with the dog. she's been throwing up ever since.
apparently, it's not that unusual. we called the vet and started by saying, "this is kind of gross, but we have a new baby --" the nurse interrupted, "did your dog eat the cord?" wish i had realized it was going to be so appealing to her. i would have put it up higher!

Im so happy Anna's cord fell off. It was starting to smell really gross.

So, we evacuated to Orlando. My family was on their way down to visit us and was planning on spending the weekend at Disney, but now we're going to spend the week up here together.

We were at Downtown Disney last night. Me, my aunt, 2 cousins, DH, baby. I was BFing Addison while they went to go grab ice cream. DH came back with a cone for us to share. He took Addison to burp her and gave me the cone.

While he was burping her, he looked over and said, "You're dropping the cone on your shirt!" and picked it up and popped it in his mouth. He got a funny look on his face and spit it out. It was her umbilical cord that had fallen off!!!

Not in your DDC, but had to stop by to read your post. It's terribly disturbing...but funny.

Here I was worried about dirty diapers and baby vomit ending up as dog treats, but I never would have guessed in a million years that the cord could be the subject of gross canine snacking, too. I'm not surprised though... The mantra I plugged into my DH (who only had experience as a cat person before we adopted our first dog) is that "dogs are GROSS."

Thank you so much for posting this! All of us pet owners should be warned before these things happen.

I will be extra vigilant about keeping an eye our babe's cord when she and the dogs are together.

Omg! dogs....sheesh! I was able to save a huge part of it b/c I consumed my placenta and a few inches of the cord was attached and we saved it.

My husband chucked Abigail's out the front door when it fell off. He was VERY happy to see it gone - we'd used the leave-it-alone approach, and it smelled SO. BAD. Thank God it was only on for a week and a day!
