dyeing yarn with wilton CANDY colors?

will it work? I spun my very first super small skein of un-dyed yarn and was planning to dye it with the wilton icing colors--- which I thought I already had. So, I'm looking now at the box, and it says candy colors. It also mentions that they're oil based (for use with the wilton candy melts).

So, btdt's think it would work? or should I go out and get the true icing colors?

Thanks!

I don't know. The only reference I found was on a blog and it said according to this article: http://www.knitty.com/ISSUEspring07/FEATdyeyourown.html it would work. When I read that article I didn't see any mention of using candy coloring though, but perhaps I missed it. Good Luck!

I'm not sure I would try it with an oil-based dye. It will probably still dye, but rinsing out the oils afterwards is liable to be a pain.

I have read about dying yarn with Wilton's dyes and I dont think there would be a problem. There is a tutorial here and if you google "dying yarn with wilton's dye" you should come up with a bunch of stuff too. GL

Wilton's food coloring and Wiltons Candy coloring are 2 different things. One is water based and one is oil based for those instances where adding water is a detriment.

I have used Wilton's icing dyes many many times, but I wouldn't do it with an oil based dye like the candy ones. . .
