Does baby really need to be 8 pounds?

I have a Maya Ring Sling and on the website and instruction booklet that came with it, it recommends that it shouldn't be used til baby is at leas 8 pounds... How closely should this be followed?

My DD is likely close to 7 pounds now... and I am going insane without a sling! My shoulders are full of knots from carrying her all day and trying to do things around the house one handed. She has been especially clingey the past couple days and wants to snuggle very close to me, the sling would be so appreciated I think. lol

But I'm trying to head the warning and wait til she is 8 pounds, but could be another month or so before she hits that...

Any advice?

Huh. Does it say why? I mean, many babes are born above that. If anything neck muscle tone might be a factor, but weight? I dunno, I'd wear her. I wore my son within an hour of birth in a ring sling, he weighed more but I really don't understand why that cutoff. But do take it easy if you can still, baby's young and you're recovering, housework can wait.

Not a cutoff of 8 pounds.... A minimum of 8 pounds. DD is likely 6 something at this point.

And not trying to do too much housework... just simple tasks like putting together a sandwich to eat. lol

I believe that's there as a legal protection for Maya Wrap, because it's harder to get a tiny baby in a ring sling correctly than a bigger baby. If you are using the sling correctly than it's safe to use it. I have used them under 8 lbs. It's at your discretion.

:

I started using my ring sling with ds2 right after he was born. He was under 7lbs.

I think a lot would just depend on your babe. If they're comfortable and the sling provides enough support, go for it!
