Knitting help!

I have done pretty well learning from knitting help.com I do have one problem. I wind up with a half inch to an inch of extra yarn from my work side to my right hand needle. I think it is because of my tension. I have watched the continental and english how-to videos and I just can't get comfy with the way she controls the tension. My question is, would this be a tension problem and if so, are there any other tension control holds I could try? Thanks!

Hmm. Could you clarify a little bit? Are you talking about your working stitch, or the previous row?

The problem I am referring to is I wind up with yarn between the needles. It seems like it is coming from the working needle and stitches. It seems to increase as I knit.

This is tension, you aren't pulling your stitches quite tight enough. Don't worry, this is something that will come with practice.

I'm not sure if you're talking about the first row after casting on, or if you mean later in the work. If, by any chance, you mean the first row, are you using the backward loop cast on? I've had that "ever increasing slack" happen with that cast on. If that's when it's happening, you could try a different one, like long-tail or cable or knitted cast on.
