I am still at a total loss about what to do for this kid. She doesn't flush and I saw yesterday that there was blood in the toilet after she went. I guess I should talk to her about getting her blood drawn? Kathy, the Alcat test, does that test for Allergies as well as intolerances? Does it involve a blood draw?

TIA,
Tracy
Yes it involves a blood draw (hence the bribery). It tests for inflammation (intolerances) and the paperwork said if you had IgE allergies, that it wouldn't show up on their test, so don't think it's safe if you've already had IgE testing done. I remember that part. I loaned out the booklet that came with it to someone who was thinking of getting it done. Their website probably has more information. I called them today about getting DS retested. They took my insurance info and they're going to talk to the insurance to see what can be done about getting it covered.

I'll still mail you flour. Really. Especially since I'm going to give up on the bread for a little while since guar gum is out again.

Well, she agreed to get blood drawn, for just TWO webkinz! I was shocked!

I am confused about why it wouldn't be safe if we've had the other testing done. I guess I'm going to have read their website. I want to get the blood allergy testing done and also any nutrition type testing done while were are getting blood drawn, anything that can check her vitamin/mineral status if anything like that exists. I noticed yesterday her hair seems to be falling out. I'm wondering if she has an absorption problem.

On the down side, I was at a health food store that was closing in 15 minutes. I grabbed some Sweet Potato chips, that Terra brand, and chowed down 1/2 bag before I realized they were Spiced. They have cayenne pepper on them. Baby is paying today.

I think it meant that if the other testing said it wasn't safe and theirs said it was, it's still not safe (since they're testing for IgG not IgE).
I want to get nutritional testing done too.
I'm sorry about the chips.

Thanks. At least it isn't too bad f/the chips, her face just looks rashy. Of course, it hasn't been 24 hours yet since I ate them, so it may get worse before it gets better. Still nothing compared to when she was head to toe open, weeping, bleeding sores. I don't even know how we got through that.

What I meant was, if you've had IgE testing and it said you're allergic to peanuts, and then you get the ALCAT testing (which tests for an inflammatory response) and it says that peanuts are safe, that it doesn't trump the IgE results. You still have the IgE response to peanuts, so it's still not safe. Am I not explaining it right? It's just saying it's a different kind of testing and does NOT test for IgE.

I had IgE testing done first to get it out of the way so that I'd know whether I was JUST dealing with intolerances (I was). Then went the ALCAT route.

I get it now Kathy. At first I thought that maybe the alcat was similar to the prick test where they exposed you to the allergens. So would I need to get a doctor to order the alcat for us so we could have them draw the blood and send it off? The allergist I took my two little ones to gave us a prescription for epi, two little needles, and had a nurse show me how to draw it up and how much to use for the little ones. I never got it filled. I just assumed he was doing it to make me feel better. Maybe it was because the baby looked that bad, just from what she was getting through my milk. At any rate that guy also gave me some papers about intollerances, so I know he "gets" it. I should take my oldest to him (if I need someone for the alcat). Also, his clinic is "allergy and asthma". The pediatric pulmonologist she sees never mentioned food allergy testing. This last time we saw him, I told him about the baby and he told me, "you could get her (oldest) tested you know" but didn't offer to write the orders. I'm assuming he meant I could take her to an allergist. Don't want to lose him though, he's been so good to us. We started seeing him when oldest was 2, he gave us his HOME PHONE NUMBER.

For us, I ordered the test kit (I actually thought my aunt was going to draw it for me so it came with the syringes and everything). Then I made the appt. with the pediatrician to draw the blood. Then I took it to Fedex to mail it off. When you call them they ask you if you want to set up a lab appt to get the blood drawn and stuff.

I'd still have the allergist do a SPT or a RAST test first, to rule out IgE allergies.
