Help, please!

Hi everyone!

We recently moved from South Africa to Ontario. 2 of our kids have never been vaccinated; 2 partly vaccinated (in varying degrees); 2 fully vaccinated (eldest son and our adopted son).

We no longer vaccinate and I would like to know what we are supposed to do if our dr had to ask us about vaccines? We homeschool, so we don't need to deal with the school authorities....

Thanks
Anelle

Just tell him you don't vaccinate. I know there is no law in Canada (no mandates for school even) that says you have to, regardless of what the doctors tell you. Try to find a doc who is respectful of your choice.

They are not manditory so you can tell the doc No Thanks. You can even say its against your religion if you want to give the impression its not open for discussion. They arent even required for school in Canada. You can find legal exemptions on www.vran.org if you do decide you want to put your kids in school someday.

We are a vax-free Canadians and have had no trouble with it, other than the occasional lecture from a Dr (even those haven't been too bad).

Never had any problems. This is Canada, not the US. Nobody is going to even ask for vaccination records for school or and such and if they do a simple "We do not vax" will suffice or a "That is private medical information".

As for dealing with doctors, the worst that can happen is an annoying lecture followed by you walking out and finding a new doctor.

Someone may correct me if I a wrong, but I have never ever heard of a case of CPS or other authorities in any way getting involved for non-vaxing in Canada.

Oh, and Welcome to Canada!

Thanks everyone!!!!!

Feeling much better about it!

Finding a new doctor could be a huge challenge, but don't worry about no-vax. Especially living where you are - an urban, progressive environment.
Welcome to Canada! Ottawa is a great city, I love it.

Thank you, Limabean! We rarely go to the dr, so we will just cope with that. Dh found this wman dr who was willing to take us on as patients. I saw her earlier this week for the migraines I'm having in pregnancy and I'm pretty sure she is very, very mainstream (4 posters on the wall - 3 for vaccines and asking me who my ob/gyn is and when i told her I'm going with a midwife, she asked "And you are okay with this?" :-) :-) ) Anyway, we will see how it goes!

Ha, she sure does sound mainstream. Unfortunately, just finding a doc who will take new patients is a bonus...not to say you shouldn't keep an ear out, but doctor-shopping doesn't really happen here.

Yup, I've noticed! Even looking for a midwife.... I'm finding it a bit odd, to be honest :-) :-) Anyway, we will keep an ear out and just go with her for now if we need to see someone desperately!
