'natural' bedding a FAIL

DS just moved to his big boy bed-we bought him an organic wool and cotton mattress, wool puddle pads, organic wool pillow and organic cotton sheets and blanket. The first time he used that pillow he got a huge red rash on his cheeks, unlike any other he has ever gotten. Took away the pillow and retested a few days later, same thing.

I spent SO much money on the wool stuff for his bed, now what do I do with it???

I am going to put an allergy barrier on the mattress and on a regular pillow. What kind of mattress pad can I get that won't have fire retardants on it? Or will I have to buy what I can and wash the retardants out with soap?

I tried a natural latex pillow and got hives all over my body. I never had an inkling that I was allergic to latex.

So yah, $300 down the drain:

I started knitting tonight with 100% wool yarn and the rash that had been slowly disappearing since I started the ED came back immediately. Actually I think it may be worse.

Can you get a script from your doctor or naturopath that requires organic cotton bedding without flame retardants? That's what I have because I've got a wool allergy. They DO make organic cotton mattresses and futons. Heart of Vermont is one place that sells them. They require a script when the cover is not wool because wool meets flame retardancy requirements without chemicals.

Sorry you spent so much before finding out he's got a wool allergy too.

I cannot afford to buy him another mattress, I am going to have to cover it and seal it the best that I can. I can buy a different mattress pad (he still needs wetness protection/soaking up ability.
